- Brisbane sets a new Paul Colman
Trio record! It'll go down as one for the record books as Brisbane officially sets a
new attendance record for a Paul Colman Trio concert. Last night 1008
people got their money's worth at Mansfield COC as the Paul Colman Trio
brought their highly anticipated 'Turn' CD launch national tour to
Brisbane. In a turn-out that was truly remarkable, it is a tribute to
Brisbane's music loving heritage that the number was actually a fair bit
lower than what was actually anticipated. For
those who missed the Paul Colman Trio this time round, it is safe to say
that the next time they're in town, a new record is almost certain to be
set again.

- 'Brown News' has arrived. In an amazing turn of events it
seems that the Official Brisbane Christian Chat News has changed from
being black and blue to chocolaty shades of brown. Inside sources
refused to comment earlier on today on the dramatic change. No one is sure
what started this amazing chain of events, but what we are certain of is
this - the 'Brown News' is here to stay.

17.10.00 - Cakes, Jam Drops & a bootin' scootin' time.
It was a blustery old day but
for the legion of jam fans who braved the windy conditions, the
Sherwood
St Matthews Anglican Spring Fair (Saturday 14 October 2000) was a jam connoisseur's
delight. And why wouldn't it be with local favourites Lemon and Orange,
and Grapefruit marmalades amoungst a host of scrumdiddly others up for
sale? The cakes were also hot favourites selling nearly as fast as the Geoff
Rankin CDs on the next table across. It was a morning shopper's
dream come true. A number of people were even seen pinching themselves. Geoff
Rankin and The Jam Drops (as they were affectionately known as on
Saturday) played two half-hour sets either side of lunch and were rapturously received
by the eager jam shoppers. The highlight of the show (apart from the
great songs) was probably the awarding of a red and a yellow jellybean
to the two best dancers during the crowd favourite 'Hook In The
Jaw'.
Those two young girls won't forget that for a long time. The band would
like to give a warm thanks to the organisers, especially for the
all-you-can-eat buffet-style lunch.
The
Geoff
Rankin show progressed to 'Yardstick',
held at Merthyr Uniting Church, Newfarm, Saturday 14 October (the same
night) and played a flawless 30min show minus their drummer. After falling
victim to a bizarre gardening accident that afternoon, Neil Andrews was
replaced with Kristina from Riverview. Plucked from the plucky audience at the
start of the show, Kristina showed the crowd what egg-shaker playing was all
about. "Kristina was the real success tonight", Dan Saunders (the bass
player) was
heard to say afterward. "She really made the songs come alive. It
wasn't only that she shook that egg like she'd heard the songs a
thousand times before, she really gave the audience something to take
away with them and think about. And I think that's what Yardstick is
all
about." It was also good to see quite a number of people throwing
their money Geoff's way. The next Yardstick is on Saturday 18
November 2001. Order
Geoff Rankin's CD 'The Sacred
Hill' here.
