- Songs of hope and encouragement in perilous times.

A response to the unthinkable.
The unthinkable happened...
Terrorists unleashed an astonishing air assault on America's military and financial power centres, hijacking four commercial jets and crashing them into the World Trade Centre in New York, the Pentagon, and the Pennsylvania countryside.
Soon, lightning commando raids in Taliban territory heralded the beginning of the US ground campaign to find Osama bin Laden, and Australia's SAS troops joined the "war on terrorism".
The world has changed. Fortunately, people have begun to find ways to face the situation realistically, and to find the balance requiring sensible precautions without a surrender to fear.
Just as the Psalmists expressed their hopes and despair in times of trouble, Australia's contemporary Christian singers and songwriters express all the emotions that people are feeling right now. Everything from the hope they are seeking, the faith that they hold on, to and the many questions that still linger.
Perhaps this is how you're feeling too:
Alabaster Box - 'A Second Away' - "This ain't the place that I would rather be. I never thought I'd need you here. Well it complicates when it's a tragedy. I should have known, and learned not to fear. And now I feel like I'm alive, but you could never tell outside, through all the pain, I need you Lord..."
Angie - Lost in You' - "Drowning in a sea of pain, can't see for the falling rain, when my path has lost its light, You come shining through the night..."
Divot (Brad Geyer) - Hollow of your Hand' - "I am in a place where I need to know you more, Where I need to touch you more, to leave my life with you, I am in a place where I need to trust you more, Where I can lay my heart so bare, And face this time with you..."
Catherine Lyons - 'Come Close to Me' - "When all in your life seems like nobody knows. Christ is the one to see you through. He is the one who'll know what to do, and he'll say. Come close to me and I will give you hope. Come close to me and I will give you love. Come close to me and I will heal your heart. Come close to me and I will give you life..."
Chris Mundy - 'Against the Grain' - "Another story is spread across the page, we sit in horror of the rage, the images are speaking a thousand words or more, but we don't bother with it all. We tread on cautious ground, we all love second best, Waiting for somebody else to save us from the mess, You're short on answers so you sit and you complain, You never have the courage to step out against the grain."
Chrissie - 'Walls Come Down' (written in response to the WTC tragedy) - "In the midst of daily life, disaster chaos strife. The screams are in my head. We've got to get revenge. The walls come down, crash to the ground. Can you hear me screaming? God, where are you now, where are you now? Can you hear me calling Your Name... Your eye for my eye. Justice now we cry. This won't heal my heart. It could tear the world apart... You've taken all my joy. My one and only boy. I forgive you all your sin. The pain you've put me in... We will die, when we try, to obtain some justice. Don't retaliate just to create some bloodshed for your tears
Derek Bailey - 'Generation Song' - "These are the times for the outpouring of the Spirit, forgiveness of sinners, healing broken people, giving hope to those who despair..."
Lisa Reynolds - 'Fall Under Grace' - "Well I don't know all the answers to the questions I've asked, but with you on my side this test I will pass..."
Margie Ward - Turn to Me' - "When you are alone and the light is dim and it seems there is nowhere for you to go. When times are darkest turn to me..."
Matt Lucas Project - 'Hope Within' - "Things are different now, your all grown up somehow. When I look in your eyes I see a stranger standing before me, things are different now your not so self-assured, I see it in your eyes - you don't believe anymore... Don't give up, don't give in, don't turn your back, Find hope within..."
Marty Kendall - 'You are There' - "Even in the darkest depths of despair, You are there (You are there) You are there..."
McFlys - 'It Won't Be Long' - "No matter what tragic events happen in our world we should always keep our eyes on God and remember that he has control. This world is not our home and there is something better to look forward to... Heaven. Eternity with God..."
Michelle Tumes - 'Healing Waters' - "Sinking from the weight of my own world, wanting the waves of Your ways to wash my feet...healing waters."
Paul Colman Trio - 'Turn' - "Why does it take a tragedy, To bring us all together? Who can change a heart, Change a motivation? Take it right back to the start... We gotta turn this life around, Turn this life around, Turn this life around..."
Rebecca St James - 'Hold Me Jesus' - "Sometimes my life just don't make sense at all when the mountains look so big and my faith just seems so small. So hold me Jesus 'cause I'm shaking like a leaf. You have been King of my glory won't You be my Prince of peace."
Roma Waterman - 'Voice of Freedom' - "I have a dream every nation shall rise, where the creed of all children is 'love never dies', out of mountains of despair, we will carve a stone of hope, I have a dream - let freedom ring, I have a dream that justice brings... hear the voice of freedom, calling to the nations, hear the nations singing we are free, a new day is rising to the colors of the world, as the voice of freedom calls to you and me..."
Simon Lewis Band - 'The Sum' - "Take a look back at the road that you've walked. Your life is the sum of the people you've loved, The ones that you laugh with and share all your dreams, or the one that just smiled as you passed in the street. It's the little things that we sometimes don't see. The beautiful thread of this life's tapestry..."
Steve Grace - 'Vision for the World' - Now standing here looking at the world today, I'm dreaming of a better view, When nations live in peace, When wars and fightings cease, When we've done all that we can do... With a vision for a world that I can believe in, With a heart to see the darkness turn to light, With a vision for a world that I can believe in, Hope for the future...." |
