13.09.02 - "More than many of us can bear..."
From Wes Jay, Woodlands

"More than many of us can bear..." (Rudy Giuliani)
Where were you when terrorists unleashed an astonishing air assault on America's military and financial power centres, hijacking four commercial jets and crashing them into the World Trade Centre in New York, the Pentagon, and the Pennsylvania countryside?
Today, the US Government is increasing pressure on its allies to broaden the "war on terrorism" and focus on Iraq.
While being an important time of remembrance and reflection, this anniversary has re-opened many wounds and fears.
Just as the Psalmists expressed their hopes and despair in times of trouble, Contemporary Christian Music today expresses all the emotions that people are feeling right now. Everything from the hope they are seeking, the faith that they hold on, to and the many questions that still linger.
Here is a sample of songs that provide encouragement for people who are still searching for answers, and a sense of
hope.
Alabaster Box - A Second Away
"This ain't the place that I would rather be. I never thought I'd need you here. Well it complicates when it's a tragedy. I should have known, and learned not to fear. And now I feel like I'm alive, but you could never tell outside, through all the pain, I need you Lord..."
Amy Grant - Somewhere Down the Road
"Somewhere down the road there'll be answers to the questions. Somewhere down the road, tho' we cannot see it now. And somewhere down the road you will find mighty arms reaching for you, and they will hold the answers at the end of the road."
Anointed - If We Pray
"There's a broken heart that's in need of healing, another weary soul in a world that reeling, well I can't turn my head and hide instead of facing it and dealing, Cause your tears are my tears. We all cry the same... "
Avalon - If My People Pray
"Now is the day to awaken, to pray with conviction for the souls of the nation. So let us call on His name, whose faithful promise still remains..."
Crystal Lewis - When God's People Pray (written on 11 September)
"When God's people pray things will change. When God's people pray all the earth will obey. My faith can't be shaken because I have seen. The amazing, miraculous happens when God's people pray."
Delirious - White Ribbon Day
"How can it be that God is love, when blood runs down upon our land and fathers lose their only son? Where is the hope? Oh God, we pray for white ribbon day. And we pray for peace, to flood our hearts again...we long for joy to fill our streets again. Only God can save our nation now."
Greg Long - In the Waiting
"Pain - the gift nobody longs for, still it comes, and somehow it leaves us stronger when it's gone away - pray!"
house2house band - Voice of Freedom
"I have a dream every nation shall rise, where the creed of all children is 'love never dies', out of mountains of despair, we will carve a stone of hope, I have a dream - let freedom ring, I have a dream that justice brings... hear the voice of freedom, calling to the nations, hear the nations singing we are free, a new day is rising to the colors of the world, as the voice of freedom calls to you and me..."
Jars of Clay - Needful hands

Katinas - You Are
"I'm hurting Lord, this world can hit me so hard. Heal me with Your grace... You are my strength at all times. There is nothing I will fear 'cause You are here. You are my refuge and hope. Quench my thirsty soul. Be alive in my heart, Father I'm praying You are."
Kirk Franklin/Bishop TD Jakes - Nine One One

Mary Mary - God has Smiled On me

Michelle Tumes - Healing Waters

Paul Colman Trio - Turn
"Why does it take a tragedy, To bring us all together? Who can change a heart, Change a motivation? Take it right back to the start... We gotta turn this life around, Turn this life around, Turn this life around..."
Rebecca St James (also Rich Mullins) - Hold Me Jesus
"Sometimes my life just don't make sense at all when the mountains look so big and my faith just seems so small. So hold me Jesus 'cause I'm shaking like a leaf. You have been King of my glory won't You be my Prince of peace."
Rebecca St James - Pray
"Jesus, I am broken now. Before You I fall, I lay me down What I want is You my all. I cry out from the ashes, boundless and unchained. I ask You Lord to make me whole again."
Rich Mullins - While the Nations Rage
"Why do the nations rage? Why do they plot and scheme? Their bullets can't stop the prayers we pray in the name of the Prince of Peace. We walk in faith and remember long ago how they killed Him and then how on the third day He arose. Well, things may look bad and things may look grim, but all these things must pass except the things that are of Him."
Rich Mullins (also Jars of Clay) - My Deliverer
"My Deliverer is coming, my deliverer is standing by. He will never break His promise - though the stars should break faith with the sky."
Sara Groves - He's Always Been Faithful
"I can't remember a trial or a pain He did not recycle to bring me gain. I can't remember one single regret in serving God only and trusting His hand. All I have need of His hand will provide. He's always been faithful to me."
Skillet - You are My Hope
"Times are hard, times have changed, don't you say? But I keep holding on to you. It's hard to keep the faith alive day to day, leaning on the strength I've found in you. You're the hope of all the earth."
Steve Grace - Vision for the World
Now standing here looking at the world today, I'm dreaming of a better view, When nations live in peace, When wars and fightings cease, When we've done all that we can do... With a vision for a world that I can believe in, With a heart to see the darkness turn to light, With a vision for a world that I can believe in, Hope for the future...."
Steven Curtis Chapman - God is God
And the pain falls like a curtain, on the things I once called certain. And I have to say the words I fear the most - I just don't know ... God is God and I am not. I can only see a part of the picture He's painting. God is God and I am man, so I'll never understand it all, for only God is God."
Steven Curtis Chapman - With Hope
"We can cry with hope, we can say goodbye with hope, 'cause we know our goodbye is not the end. And we can grieve with hope, 'cause we believe with hope. There's a place by God's grace."

"There is a hope, there is a peace, that will make this life complete for every man, woman, boy and girl looking for heaven in the real world."

Wayne Watson - When God's People Pray
"Trouble knocking on your window pane. Stormy weather at your door. And the outlook for the day ahead, like the day before. People tell ya praying changes things. But words don't stop this fear. Prayer is only pious rambling without a Father's ear. He will not turn away, when His people pray. When God's people pray and take the pains of earth to the doors of heaven. There is hope reborn, there is sin forgiven, and miracles you can't explain away, When God's people pray..." |
