17.10.04 - Vision marks the 50,000 milestone!
From Amanda Richardson, Communications officer, UCB Australia.
Vision Radio Network is 50,000 hours on air today as it works towards the
vision of Christian Radio for every Australian. The national Christian radio network first came on air on February 1, 1999, broadcasting on one frequency to just one town - Beaudesert, Queensland. Today, it can be heard in nearly 200 communities across Australia, with 49 relay stations in Western Australia; 14 in South Australia; 13 in Victoria; three in Northern Territory; 31 in New South Wales and 79 in Queensland. It is also heard by people across the
globe via the internet - tune in at www.visionfm.com.au.
A non-denominational, non-profit network, Vision is owned and operated by UCB Australia (United Christian Broadcasters). Each of its relay stations receive Vision’s family-friendly programming mix of about 65% music and 35% talk 24 hours a day, seven days a week from its broadcast operations centre in Brisbane, Queensland. |
13.10.04 - Chart-topper star of Canberra TV launch.
From Australian
Christian Channel.
The history-making Hillsong Church worship team will perform a free live concert in Canberra to mark the national launch of
Australian Christian Channel in Canberra on Friday, October 15. Acclaimed singer
Darlene Zschech, the face of the 'For All You've Done' album that debuted at No 1 on the ARIA charts earlier this year, will lead the event at the Royal Theatre, National Convention Centre, from 7:30pm. The Australian Christian Channel is presently broadcast on the Optus pay television network and Digital 44 in the Sydney Metropolitan area. In the near future it may be broadcast locally on TransACT, and will also be broadcasting nationally on Austar.
Australian Christian Channel Managing Director, Mike Jeffs, said Canberra was a symbolic location to launch the Australian Christian Channel nationally. "Darlene Zschech and the Hillsong church have shown just how creative, talented and relevant Christians are in the community," Mr Jeffs said. "We are excited about the future of the Australian Christian Channel and we are delighted to have Darlene and her team in Canberra to celebrate the occasion." |

12.10.04 - No ARIA for Christian music sector.
From Wes Jay, The
Rock Across Australia.
The Australian Record Industry Association
(ARIA) holds its annual awards on 17 October at the Sydney SuperDome. These highly prestigious music awards recognise and promote excellence in recorded Australian music. They encourage production, sales, and public knowledge of Australian artists. New awards this year include Best World Music, Best Classical, Best Soundtrack/Cast and Best Jazz albums.
Sadly, ARIA is yet to recognise the achievements of the Christian music sector with an annual award. Earlier this year,
Hillsong topped the ARIA charts mid-year with
'For All You've Done'. The church has secured high positions on the ARIA chart for the past three years and gained ARIA accreditation for 12 gold and platinum albums. I think it is time that ARIA recognises the achievements of this sector. After all, it accounts for an estimated 5.2% of the nation's audio music sales, and that's larger than world music, classical, jazz and soundtracks. |

12.10.04 - Jesus Christ's superstar is cool with fame.
From Wes Jay, The
Rock Across Australia.
Darlene Zschech is "Jesus Christ's Superstar" according to
The Bulletin. Journalist Diana Bagnall describes Zschech's signature song
'Shout to the Lord' as the religious equivalent of
John Lennon's 'Imagine' and the contemporary counterpart to
'Amazing Grace'. The article suggests that some people get a little nervous about Darlene's fame.
"I put my hand up to serve people, not for fame," Darlene told the journalist. Check out the full story on-line at

United records its new live CD last weekend. And next month, Hillsong will release
