22.01.04 - New Christian music show rocks on TV.
From Phil Black, God Rocks
TV.
A new music TV show aimed at non-Christian youth is about to hit television airwaves this March, potentially reaching 42 million viewers worldwide and 5 million in Australia alone. Phil and Jo Black, who attend Highway Christian Church on Queensland's Gold Coast, recently launched
'God Rocks TV', a positive alternative to TV music programs such as 'Rage'.
"God Rocks TV is in the genre of TV music shows like 'Rage', playing contemporary Christian rock music from Australia, New Zealand and around the world," Phil said. "It's hosted by three young presenters who introduce the bands, promote competitions, and collect email requests. They just allow the music to do the witnessing."
"God Rocks TV is a positive alternative to the secular music programs with their sexual overtones and coarse language," said Jo. Mums and dads are telling us they're excited that someone is taking the initiative in this area... there's so much junk out there. We can't stop young people watching TV, so we're trying to improve what they're watching."
Thirteen 30 minute episodes have been produced so far, featuring video clips of bands such as Toby Mac, Newsboys, POD, PAX 217, Thousand Foot Krunch, Kimbo, and Audio Adrenaline. God Rocks TV will have a starting potential viewing audience of more than 5 million in Australia with its program being broadcast on Optus Cable TV (Channel 49), BRIZ 31 in Brisbane, Sydney 31 and ACCESS 31 in Perth. The programs also will be shown overseas in South Africa, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Russia (under negotiation). Along with the TV program, Phil plans to produce and offer compilation CDs and clothing, and has launched the God Rocks TV website
www.godrocks.tv. Phil and Jo are urging Christians to watch the programs on their local networks and email their support to God Rocks TV.
"We need massive response when we go to air so that the TV networks see the number of viewers and their support," Phil said. "If you can't get the program in your area, email us from our website requesting that our program be shown in your area." |

15.01.04 - 6across - Single... Sonfest... Married.
From 6across.
We, 6across, have finished recording & mixing our first band recording
'Pieces That Didn't Fit' and have made it available to everyone as a freely downloadable MP3. Our main aim with this song is for it to be a promo tool for the band. It's a top song with a great message and we hope it will be a fitting introduction to who we are. Download it
from here
now! More info & lyrics to 'Pieces That Didn't Fit' are available at our website.
This coming Saturday (17 Jan 2004) we are playing at Sonfest 2004, Boonah. Our timeslot is 4pm and everyone is invited to attend. We will be performing for about 30 minutes and will be playing 2 brand new songs. One of these songs,
'Wind Blows In The Windows', was voted 'Song Most Likely To Light A Lighter To' at Pialba, Hervey Bay late last year. We will have some happy snaps from Sonfest on our website soon. Visit
the Gig Guide for full Sonfest details.
In THE wedding of last year, as far as 6across is concerned, was the uniting of
Geoff Rankin (guitar) & Renata Curnow (vocals) in holy matrimony. We hope this will be the first of many happy marriages within the band... Just kidding :) The happy couple have since returned from their Fiji tour and are now settling back in to normal band
life.

07.01.04 - National Christian Music Report Names 2003 Artist And Song Of The Year.
From Wes Jay, The
Rock Across Australia.
Australia's national Christian music charts, The Rock Across Australia
(TRAA), today has applauded the achievements of two Australian women for attaining strong national radio support.
Roma Waterman's 'Lifting Me Up' - a song reflecting the insecurity that exists in the world today - has secured the most airplay of any Christian song in the sector during 2003.
Grammy Award winning Australian singer Rebecca St. James has become the most played Christian artist of the year through a combination of four songs -
'Expressions of Your Love', 'I Thank
You', 'Let My Words Be Few' and 'Song of
Love'.
TRAA today named American singer-songwriter Stacie Orrico Artist of the Year, and her song
'(There's Gotta Be) More to Life' - a message about a person wanting more in life - as Song of the Year. This is the second time an American has won both awards in the same year.
Michael W Smith won Artist and Song of the Year for
'Purified' last year.
Stacie Orrico is no ordinary 17-year old. Her self-titled CD has been nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album and has been certified gold in the US. Her worldwide sales are approaching two million. The song '(There's Gotta Be) More to Life' is TRAA's most successful song of the year securing the #1 position for 13 consecutive weeks from August to October. Two other songs from Stacie's album also gained number one positions during the year -
'Stuck' and 'Security'. In total, Orrico spent 23 weeks atop TRAA.
The Rock Across Australia reports are available on-line at www.therockacrossaustralia.com.

06.01.04 - Sonfest - one week to go.
From The Sonfest Team.
There is just over a week until Sonfest 2004 is unleashed and expectation has reached its highest level ever. Ticket sales so far are leading us to believe that this Sonfest will undoubtedly be the biggest ever.
Stage Schedules...
The schedules for the stages are now all up on the website, you can have a look at each stage or by day so you can plan everything that you want to see.
Random Acts of Kindness...
I think that you would agree that Sonfest wouldn't be the same without Boonah. Since Sonfest started there have been groups of people who have given back to the community. After Sonfest 2004 there will again be a chance to give back to Boonah. For more info check out the RAK section on the Sonfest home page.
Lastly, please continue to pray for anything and everything to do with Sonfest - Those attending, for safe travel, the ministry of the bands, the fellowship and organisation - Your prayer support for Sonfest is
vital.

05.01.04 - Will You Be M2K'ing In January 2004?
From Frank Rasenberger.
American contemporary folk artists, Marianne Kesler and
Mia Kim, are coming to Australia for the very first time as part of their
M2K Tour. Most of their performances will be in and around Toowoomba, with other gigs in the greater Brisbane area and on the Sunshine Coast.
Marianne Kesler is a singer-songwriter, acoustic guitarist, and independent recording artist hailing from Ohio in the United States. Performing a musical style all her own, her music can best be described as well-produced poetic 'folk-rock'. She has recorded 4 quality CD's - the latest one
'Long Road Home' is in my opinion a masterpiece (and I don't use that word lightly).
Mia Kim is a singer-songwriter, acoustic guitarist and independent recording artist also from the U.S. (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) who has released her debut CD called
'Rumour Of Flight' to critical acclaim. Her music is also folk-rock but with an alternative attitude and edge - a la Tori Amos, Ani DiFranco.
These artists have found touring together to be a positive experience. As both artists have the initials 'MK' they have labeled their tour the M2K Tour - '2 artists, 2 albums, 1 tour'.
I first encountered Marianne Kesler's music in the late 90's when I worked as a volunteer radio announcer at the Barossa Valley's community radio station Triple Bfm (in South Australia).
As a big fan of each artist, I believe they both need to be given the opportunity to perform in our country. I'd like to see the music of each artist made readily available in the retail music outlets of our country. I'd also love to hear the music of each artist on air.
If you want to check out their music before they arrive here, the BrisbaneChristianChat.com has mp3s of Marianne Kesler's
'After All', 'Long Hard
Road', & 'The Climb' songs. You can download them at
www.brisbanechristianchat.com/music/mp3 (they're listed under the 'International MP3s' heading). You can also listen to samples of Marianne Kesler's music on her own website at
www.coolspirit.net
and Mia Kim has samples of her own music available on her own website at
www.miakimonline.com.
Currently Marianne Kesler's latest CD and Mia Kim's debut CD are available from Grassroots Music Distribution
www.grassrootsmusic.com. All of Marianne's CD's are also available from the Indie Heaven website (www.indieheaven.com) and on CD Baby (www.CDBaby.com).
For a promotional press kit (which includes downloadable pictures, bio, fact sheet, and media reports), visit
www.silverx7.com. This is a website both artists share. This website also features an online booking form that can be filled out by an interested promoter, venue, etc.
I encourage you to take the opportunity to check out Marianne Kesler and Mia Kim's music for yourself at one of the venues where they will be performing for their first-ever Australian tour! Complete concert listings are on their websites. Support quality live music at a venue near
you.
