18.06.03 - Wanted: 6across electric cello.

From 6across.

Brisbane-based Christian acoustic rock band 6across are on the look-out for an electric cello. (We already have an electric cellist - ie her fingers move very fast!) Currently sporting the usual funny brown coloured acoustic cello, Weide is fed up with trying to get the rest of the band to play quieter.

"Amplifying the cello is often a hard task with drums, wind and other noise around so any method of amplifying the cello better or purchasing an electric cello would be fantastic. The best solution would be if you worked for Yamaha or another maker of electric cellos and wanted to endorse us," said Geoff Rankin, the resident 6across hunk, earlier today. Please email info@6across.com or call 07 3878 3114 if you can help or know of someone who can.

18.06.03 - pc3 - phenomenal success in just four years.

From Wes Jay, The Rock Across Australia.

The Paul Colman Trio (pc3) has achieved phenomenal success in a relatively short time. After spending three months as a "chart bubbler", the trio first made its appearance on TRAA with 'Fill My Cup' four years ago this week. Debuting on TRAA at #28, 'Fill My Cup' stayed on the charts for 22 weeks, peaking at #3. The song, credited to Paul Colman, was issued as a bonus track on the trio's debut CD 'Serious Fun'. 'Fill My Cup' made a return appearance on TRAA earlier this year after the trio re-recorded it for the international label release 'New Map of the World'.

Since relocating to the US, things have quickly picked up a gear or two for the trio:
- touring with three-time Group of the Year Third Day for an estimated 300,000 fans,
- claiming two #1 US radio singles with 'Turn' and 'Run'
- receiving a Grammy nomination in the category of Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album, plus
- garnering the 2003 Dove Award for Best New Artist.

It has been an extraordinary four years for the guys and their families. What they achieve during the next four years may well be just as dramatic. Well done guys!

pc3's new CD 'One' will be released in September.

18.06.03 - TRAA Song Of The Week - 'I Thank You'.

From Wes Jay, The Rock Across Australia.

'I Thank You' from 'Wait for Me: The Best From Rebecca St James' is the most played song on Christian radio in Australia, and RSJ is the most played artist. Rebecca says that from the time she first heard 'I Thank You', it seemed the right choice to include on her 'Best From' album.

"God has allowed me to be a part of almost ten years of the ministry so it seemed very appropriate to say 'thank you' to God for loving me and giving me strength to sing," Rebecca says. "In a more subtle way, the song also thanks my audience for believing in me and supporting me in prayer, coming to the concerts, and making me feel so generally appreciated.

"We're seeing a great response to it here in the States, and now I am SO glad to hear people in my home country are loving 'I Thank You' too!" she adds enthusiastically.

The orchestra has a professional conductor, Eslepth Sutherland, who is currently doing a masters in conducting. Her contact if anyone is serious, is esutherland@bigpond.com or phone 0422650222. Any Christian composers, arrangers, or songwriters who want their music played by a symphony orchestra would also be welcome to come along and chat to Elspeth, or myself.

06.06.03 - Aussie strikes gold in the US while American strikes gold in Australia.

From Wes Jay, The Rock Across Australia.

Rebecca St. James has earned US gold certification (sales more than 500 000 units) from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for her album 'God'. This 1996 release features 'You're the Voice', 'God', 'Speak To Me', plus 'Go and Sin No More'. St. James has accumulated more than two million career sales, including the Grammy-winning album 'Pray'. Rebecca will be honoured with her first gold record by the industry later this month.

While RSJ has been discovering gold in the US, Stacie Orrico has been digging in Australia. The Australian Record Industry Association (ARIA) has certified the Stacie's single 'Stuck' has sold more than 35 000 copies. (That's gold in Australia). 'Stuck' is #4 on ARIA's singles chart. EMI released her self-titled album this week.

Award winning duo Carter & Carter have teamed up with Darren Coggan for 'Busy Man', the follow-up single to their national #1 country hit 'Lead Me Home'. The song comes from Carter & Carter's 'Every Minute' album, which has produced three #1 songs, including the Golden Guitar winning 'Candlelight & Kisses'. Since January Carter & Carter have managed to visit every state but the Northern Territory (some of them twice). Currently they are in the middle of a tour with fellow Golden Guitar winner Travis Sinclair, and plan to return to Tamworth over the June long weekend for the Hats Off Festival. 06.06.03 - David Meece - Here he goes again!

By Lynne Stringer, courtesy of The Queensland Baptist.

Christian recording artist David Meece released his first album in 1976, at the age of 21. Late last year, after more than 25 years in the industry, he released album number thirteen 'There I Go Again' and embarked on a world tour, visiting Australia in April and May.

A childhood prodigy, David did not become a Christian until he was training as a classical pianist at the Peabody Conservatory of Music. "I was going to get my bachelor's degree and then my master's and my doctorate," he says, "I was going to go the road of most and try to have an artist in residence teaching position at a major conservatorium, touring while I was doing it. That was my whole goal in life."

Forced to go to church by his mother when he was a child, he had previously thought that Christianity meant little more than regular church attendance. More...
