25.10.02 - Beanbag disband.
From The Rock Across Australia.
Beanbag has disbanded for unspecified reasons. Lead singer,
Hans 'Hunz' Simon Van Vliet continues with a
solo project and Phil Usher rejoins
Tonjip.
The band's 'Beanbag, Hospital and Anthem Tour' (scheduled to conclude this weekend) was unexpectedly curtailed after the band's van and trailer had a showdown with a deer outside Nashville last weekend. Hans was taken to the hospital with a suspected punctured lung, and released on Monday. The rest of the band sustained cuts and
sprains.
We all wish the guys from Beanbag our very best and our prayers
are with each one of them. We encourage you to support & uphold them
in your prayers. |
25.10.02 - Carpetman goes live on radio.
From Carpetman (Martin Jacobs).

25.10.02 - Sonfest update.
From Sonfest.
Pillar Confirmed...
The Sonfest organisers are pleased to announce that US rock act Pillar will be performing exclusively at
Sonfest 2003. Their performance on the Friday evening is their only appearance in Australia. Pillar’s mix of driving sounds and soaring melodies earned them a 2001 Dove Award for 'Best Hard Rock Album of the Year' followed by a second Dove award in 2002 for their song 'Live for Him'. Pillar's fast rise in popularity has earned them the reputation as one of Christian Music’s premier rock acts.
Interesting facts about the band include lead singer and band front-man,
Rob Beckley doubling as a soldier in the United States Army reserves. Beckley was called to serve in Afghanistan and only moments later he was told that he was being replaced by another soldier. Despite his national allegiances, Pillar’s colours are shown clearly in their song 'Echelon' featured on their new album 'Fireproof':
"I’m a soldier in the army of One,
and like I told you, the battle’s already won."
Just another one of the not-to-miss bands performing at Sonfest 2003.
7 day Countdown...
There are only seven days left before the October monthly madness
draw. To enter all you have to do is purchase your ticket at either Koorong or Pillar Bookstores and fill out the entry form. This month’s prizes are: 1st - $100 Rebel Sport gift voucher, 2nd - 4 slabs of Coke or Diet Coke, 3rd - Sonfest T-Shirt. Remember if you purchase your ticket now your entry will be included in the November, December and Ultimate Christmas gift draws as well plus you get a free Toby Mac CD when you buy before November 30!
More local Bands confirmed...
The following bands are new additions to the Sonfest line-up - Wishful Thinking, Blind, Bodyworx, Memphis Joe, Gerald, Justin Mark, 8Ball, Breathing Autumn, Emino, Leigh Wallis, Oak and still more to come.
That's all for now. Once again thanks for all of your prayers and support.

25.10.02 - TRAA Song Of The Week.
From The Rock Across Australia.
Jars of Clay returns with its sixth number one song on TRAA.
'Fly' first hit the top spot on 22 July for two weeks.
Matt Odmark says 'Fly' is one of the most difficult songs the band has ever written.
"The song is the tragic story of a man and a woman, who shortly after they were married, found out the once dormant cancer had returned to destroy her body," Matt says. "The couple spent their entire marriage in the hospital until one evening, while holding hands, he let her go. Fly is about that moment," he says.
"If ever faith is going to make a difference in your life, it's got to make a difference then. The song wrestles with what it means to stare death in the face and ask the big questions," Matt concludes.
JOC's previous #1s are 'Everything in Between',
'Unforgetful You', 'Collide',
'Hand', plus 'I Need
You'. |

25.10.02 - Rocking out loud at Deception Bay.
By Lynne Stringer, The Queensland Baptist.
On September 21 Rock Out Loud made its debut at Deception Bay's PCYC. Billed as the northside's largest music event, it featured Brisbane and interstate bands and seven straight hours of music. Proceeds from ticket sales were donated to Scripture Union Queensland to support their chaplaincy work.
Melbourne's Compliments of Gus was the headline act, with The Last Resort and Half Way Out also playing. Brisbane's Distinguished Guests started the afternoon and were followed by ska band Supafish, rapper Floyd Hughes and rock band Soljah. Cover band Tom Foolery and the Shenanigans played after Half Way Out, followed by The Last Resort, Breathing Autumn and Ben Cleaver, before Compliments of Gus closed the evening. Other bands were featured in between sets, one of the highlights being Hooray for Everything, who performed several unusual songs, including one about Southbank's Kodak Beach and another about the board game Monopoly.
Andrew Paavit of Burpengary Baptist Church organised Rock Out Loud with the help of a number of people from his church, including professional video technicians, who kept a continuous feed of images flowing to a large screen in the PCYC arena and to televisions in the foyer. Andrew was glad that the event went so well, with everything running smoothly and on time. This was his first attempt at planning a gig, and he had been working on Rock Out Loud since February. He hopes that Rock Out Loud will become a yearly event, and is already planning for the next one, which will be held during the September school holidays in 2003. |

25.10.02 - Andy Chapman wins Encouragement Award from "Debeaut" album.
From Andy Chapman.
Judges at the hotly contested Australian Gospel Songwriting
Awards, (at the National Gospel Happening in Canberra) recently awarded Andy with The Encouragement Award for his blues song
'Do You Believe in God?'. Andy's been definitely encouraged by the award which comes from his "Debeaut" album
'Everyone's A Model' released earlier this year. Unable to make it to the awards presentation due to a double booking, Andy was hoping to do a live hook up by phone to thank everyone which, unfortunately didn't eventuate. So he thanks the judges, organisers, sponsors of the great event, and album producer and musician Craig Ross. The fun album is also graced by Steve Apirana's guitar and harmonies, Darran Muller on drums, Steve Larmar and Andy's wife Sharny on BVs and some cool blue's harp by Andy. Andy's available to play and share the gospel anywhere, anytime to anyone, as long as he's not double booked! Contact Andy Chapman on 07 5482 9320, 0428 829320 or

25.10.02 - Homecoming charts on Billboard and heads down under.
From The Rock Across Australia.
Over the past four decades, gospel music innovator
Bill Gaither has experienced many significant benchmarks. Recently, he has cracked the Top 40 of Billboard's Top 200 Albums chart.
'Let Freedom Ring' (#35) and 'God Bless America' (#44) became the highest-debuting CDs ever for a Gaither project. Taped live at New York's famed Carnegie Hall, the CDs feature dozens of familiar Gaither Homecoming artists.
Now, the Gaithers are heading down under for a landmark concert at the Sydney Opera House on Saturday 2 November. Performing with Bill & Gloria Gaither and the
Gaither Vocal Band (comprising Bill Gaither, Davis Phelps, Guy Penfold and
Russ Taff) are The Easters, Mark Lowry, Janette Paschal and
Taylor Mason with Anthony Burger on piano. The concert will be recorded and released as a Gaither Gospel Series Homecoming Video, DVD and CD in March-April next year. For further information, contact Word Australia on 03 9894 4900. |

25.10.02 - TRAA Song Of Last Week.
From The Rock Across Australia.
One of the most infectious songs to hit TRAA chart over the past few months is
Tonéx’s head nodding, spirit-filled party song
'Bout A Thang'. Reflecting on the events on the past week, Tonéx’s says the song encourages and reminds us not to worry because God can handle anything.
"With all the things going on today, we need a reminder to not walk in fear, to not let stress, people or whatever get us down," he says. "There’s nothing too hard for God," he emphasises.
'Bout A Thang' has been released as a mainstream single and is getting plenty of airplay on mainstream radio and
TV.

18.10.02 - Funky update.
From Mullet TV.
Following on from the huge acceptance of Saturday night, we've been invited to keep going right thru November with gigs at the
Funky Sun Cafe. Upon reflection and prayer we have decided to do this, which means that we are postponing the
Ridge'n gig at Acacia Ridge until February next year.
It therefore follows that we have a heap of slots available for bands that are keen to do a gig in a small cafe. The first three sets of any night need to be done unplugged and a full set of punk probably won't work, but anything else goes. The cafe is especially keen to hear/see bands displaying virtuosity in their music - so bands with quality lead instrument performances are especially welcome. Bands who were slotted for Ridge'n are all welcome to be a part of the gig.
Hey hey - its the Funky Sun Cafe gig is on again this Saturday - at, you guessed it - the Funky Sun Cafe in Broadbeach on the Gold Coast. Last week we had a ball with all the bands sounding great. At the end Just Listen really showed 'em how! This week we have a few bands you may not have heard before - but we have heard them, and we can't wait because this is going to be a great night! The gig is free - so what's stopping you - get yourself down to the Funky Sun - these are very cool gigs! 7:00 - Puretone | 7:40 - Flynn from Salvation Jane and friends | 8:20 - Ben James | 9:00 - Little Jody | 9:40 - Since Friday | 10:25 - Carpetman. Check the
Gig Guide for more details. |

Michael McCarthy brings his band along in the support slot for the gigs on Saturday October 19 Newcastle and Friday October 25 in Brisbane (all-ages). Check the
Gig Guide for more details.

18.10.02 -
Scotfree and Motion Illusion working on new video clip.
From Scotfree & Oilyrag Productions.
The title track of the Scotfree EP
'Renovator's Dream' is being turned into an animated video clip by none other than Gavin, head animator for
Motion Illusion. It will be in 'clay-mation' and aims to be "full of wit and relevant message - but not what you'd expect!" The MP3 is available free on BCC and the EP can be bought at gigs or via the Scotfree website - DVD soon with clip. |
18.10.02 - Jive express it on home.
From ACAN.
With two Australian national tours under its belt, two albums, sell-out performances at venues such as The Basement (Sydney) and The Evelyn Hotel (Melbourne), another east coast jaunt set for December, a forthcoming New Zealand National Tour in January 2003, and a third album on the way, it's no surprise that Perth-based groovers
the jive express have had little opportunity to play in their home city for a while. That's all about to change; the jive express will be backing up the funky truck and unloading another generous serving from their funk-jazz smorgasbord at Mojos Bar in Fremantle on October 25th. Precision musicianship, unfeasibly funky delivery and a penchant for bootie-shakin' fun have seen the jive express delight crowds all around Australia and this is a chance for the home crowd to see them before New Zealand does! |
18.10.02 - STR ready to live.
From ACAN.

10.10.02 - Sonfest: Mary Mary cancel and are replaced by...
From Sonfest.
The management of Sonfest regret to announce that
Mary Mary will no longer be appearing at Sonfest 2003 as the band's management have decided to cancel the tour of Australia and New Zealand.
However, American R&B sisters, Out of Eden will be replacing Mary Mary as one of the headline acts for Sonfest. Out of Eden has sold over 1,000,000 albums and have performed with the likes of Destiny's Child, Pointer Sisters, Kirk Franklin and CeCe
Winans. They have been nominated for 7 Dove Awards, have had 2 #1 hits, 15 top 10 hits, recorded 4 albums since 1994 and have had songs make it onto both movie soundtracks and TV shows. The girls live show is an incredibly tight mix of vocals, dance and groove and this level of performance will be a great addition to the Sonfest line up.
If you have purchased a ticket to see Mary Mary and would like a refund you may call head office on 073896 8744 or email
bill@crossroad.com.au.

10.10.02 - Crew cuts.
From The Rock Across Australia.
Audio Adrenaline, Rebecca St. James, Out of Eden, Skillet, The Supertones, and
Kutless are launching the 'Collectors
Series', a new line of DVDs, offering fans more access to their favourite
artists than ever before. Releasing next month, the DVDs are loaded with music videos, EPK footage, artist commentary, and song clips.
POD is continuing to make waves with its album
'Satellite'. The RIAA certified triple platinum for US sales comes on the heels of the release of
'Satellite - Limited Edition' - a specially packaged CD/DVD double-disc version of the album. Unfortunately, the band that has become a culture
to itself, was making additional waves last week reportedly suggesting "Christian music is the cheesiest music" and slammed leading Christian acts including
Newsboys and Jars of
Clay.
Lifehouse has become a full-fledged quartet. The band welcomes guitarist
Sean Woolstenhulme from The Calling (brother of Lifehouse drummer,
Rick). Singer/guitarist Jason Wade and bassist
Sergio Andrade round out the line-up. Wade says he's thrilled to have a new member on board. "Sean is an extremely innovative and creative lead guitar player who has great stage presence," Wade says. Lifehouse plays in Australia from 5-12 October and New Zealand on 13 October.
Janna Long, one-fourth of Dove Award-winning vocal group
Avalon releases her self-titled solo debut next month.
'All The Earth' from the Parachute
Band’s latest album 'Amazing' was recently voted #1 on the UCB Europe Top 20.

new website. The album will be available in Australia/NZ next
month.

10.10.02 - TRAA Song Of The Week.
From The Rock Across Australia.
Seventeen-year-old Australian singer
Charmaine has a huge heart for God. She is touring with
Rebecca St. James, singing background vocals, as well as opening shows with a performance of her own. Her debut CD
'All About Jesus' opens with 'I Love You Lord' - an upbeat song reminiscent of RSJ.
Charmaine told TRAA that the title sums up everything in her life. "It’s all about looking at God and spending time with Him," she says. "The more we look at Him, the more we fall in love with Him. That for me, is worship. It’s what I hope people will hear when they hear me sing 'I Love You Lord'," Charmaine explains.
Written by Charmaine, Joel Smallbone and Steve
Wilson, 'I Love You Lord' is the most added song on Christian radio in Australia during the past
week.

04.10.02 - Chris Mundy releases new single.
From Chris
Mundy.
Chris Mundy has recently released the second single from his
'Welcome to the World' album. 'Carry Me' has already achieved critical acclaim from the music industry, scoring a finalist position in
the national Australian Songwriting Association
Competition.
"Carry Me is a song about grief, loss and hope", states Chris. "The song has already impacted a lot of people whenever I play it live. At a recent performance a 15year girl came up to me. She had been admitted into hospital after displaying suicidal
behaviour when her Grandfather died. She said the song meant a lot to her and gave her hope to carry on with God's help".
The song recently scored highly in the Australian Songwriting Association Competition, achieving a finalist position in the 'Sacred/ Religious' Category.
Its been a little while between single releases from 'Welcome to the World'. Chris explains this short break, "I've had a few projects going on this year.
Interim released their
'Part of Design' EP which I wanted to give space to. I wrote and recorded a jingle for Paul's Milk. Now it's time to focus back on my solo stuff cause there is some great material on 'Welcome to the World' that people need to hear".
The single comes with the CHR track 'Metropolis', and a 26min radio special about 'Welcome to the World'. The radio special gives a glimpse into the experiences that inspired the songs on the album, and also gives a glimpse into the life of Chris Mundy. "I think its important in the music industry that people see artists as just everyday people who struggle with the same issues they do. Too often we put artists, especially Christian artists, in 'super human' categories that are far removed from everyday life".
Both 'Carry Me' and 'Metropolis' have been remastered for radio by Dave Neil of
Jumpstart Productions. The remastering process has made these tracks sound much bigger and louder, while ensuring that the vocals are easy to hear. Request 'Carry Me' or 'Metropolis' on a community radio station near you!!
'Carry Me' is available to download legally for free from BrisbaneChristianChat.com right
here. 'Welcome to the World' is available from Koorong, Keswick, Word Brisbane, and independent Christian
Bookstores.

04.10.02 - VIR issue red alert!
From Void If
Removed.
We have identified another Void If Removed in the area on our 'www.' scanner. The warning came from one of our comrade fans. General 'Eggy' the leader of the Void If Removed army has contacted the infiltrators and there are international
discussions at this point in time. How were we to know that the Northern Ireland band would come through as punk rockers called 'Voidifremoved' - and a Christian band too!! I think that is pretty funny, eh!
This actually happened in Shane Eggy's last band Furthermore...
Tooth and Nail brought out another band called Furthermore, while FM (aust) was already in progress. All I can say is it helps with the marketing! I just think it is funny it has happened twice. And both times they have been Christian bands. Maybe God wants to populate the earth with Voidifremoved and Furthermore bands.
You can check out this funny incident at these sites:
