04.10.02 - Candlelight Remembrance Ceremony.
From Olwen Schubert.
Suicide is often stated as being 'too sad' to even mention, but in case you didn't realise, in 2000 we lost over 4,000 people to suicide here in our 'lucky country' Australia!
SOSBSA are holding its annual Candlelight Remembrance Ceremony at the Rotunda, New Farm Park on Monday, 14 October 2002 at 7:00pm. This event is a celebration!
We will play our special songs interspersed with our special poems and letters etc, after which we will light our candles. We give everyone a red heart with a white banner on it, so that they can write their loved one's name on it and this is accompanied with a little bit of baby's breath flowers. It is a very moving ceremony and a few tears are shed - but it is a celebration of the lives of those we've lost to suicide - a validation of their existence and the lives that they have enriched! And we end it with Tina Arena's 'Now I Can Dance' and that's exactly what we do!
