From BCC HQ.
We are glad to announce that we have booked
NZ Christian band the Lads
in for a Live Chat on Monday 16 Sept @ the special time of 7pm (9pm NZ
time). This is to accommodate the fact that NZ is 2 hours ahead of east
coast Australia (although many Australians would argue that they are 19
years, 364 days and 22 hours behind).
"Hi this is Mark here from the Lads. We're really looking forward to spending some time online chatting with you on Sept 16. Please feel free to ask us any questions you like.... but if they are really hard questions, could you direct them towards Bennett (Ben) our bass player (but don't tell him I said to do that)."

From Pseudo Llama.
I hope everyone is feeling well out there in Llama land! We're all doing great. At the moment we are recording our debut EP. We are under way with the
pre-production and some of the recordings too. We hope to have it finished by the end of the year.
We've got a few gigs coming up in the next couple of weeks. The next one is Sunday September 15 at the Jubilee Hotel, St Pauls Tce Valley. The gig runs all day and we will be in the afternoon/ early evening sometime. As soon as we know when it is you will know. It would be great to see as many people who can make it at this gig as our pay rate is dependent on how many people we bring. So come and help us pay for our recording!
The next one is the following Sunday night, 22nd. Approximately 9pm at the Edinborough Castle Hotel, 421 Gympie Rd Kedron. The gig runs from 6-10pm and we will be the headline act on last. The other bands should be great too. |
30.08.02 - Antiskeptic announce new agents.
From Anthony Aitken | Revolution Entertainment Group.
Antiskeptic is pleased to announce the addition of three new booking agents to the team. Dave Batty from Custom Made Artist Representation, Chris O'Brien from Solitaire Management and Craig Armstrong from Scorpion Entertainment will look after all bookings in New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia respectively. The experience these guys bring to Antiskeptic will
be invaluable for the future.
These new appointments are just some of the exciting things happening for the young Melbourne trio after the recent release of their debut album
'Memoirs of A Common Man'.
The album has been receiving rave reviews from press with Andrew Tijs from
Beat Magazine describing the record as, "quite a triumph. The songs are pointedly individual which is a rarity in this brand of music... spiritually uplifting, grandiose, ingenuous, professional and compulsively energetic."
Simon Jones from Kerrang Magazine concurs with Andrew rating the album as, "the work of a band blossoming into a very confident rock outfit... Catchy, emotional... melodic rock songs - KKKK.
Not to mention, last week Antiskeptic's album and the latest single 'Called' charting in all four
AIR charts. In the Independent Label and Independent Distributors chart, the album reached #9 and the single reached #10. Moreover, in the Independent Labels chart the album gained #17 position, competing alongside the like of
The Avalanches, Front End Loader, 1200 Techniques, Silverchair, The Secret Life of Us Soundtrack, JJJ Hottest 100 CD, Paul Mac and
Lee Kernaghan. 'Called' also received the #12 position in the Singles/EP section.
Airplay has also been very forthcoming for the band with 'Called' being added to high rotation on
Triple J and Triple
M. Also, two weeks ago the single debuted at No 41 on the Triple J
Net 50 chart. The next week it jumped a massive 37 spots to snare the No 14 position! The filmclip for 'Called' has also been getting regular rotation on
Rage, MTV, Channel V and Fly
TV.
Look out for Antiskeptic shredding up MONE in October as well as release of the new single
'Four Seasons' and a national tour in November.

23.08.02 - Alabaster Box news.
From Alabaster Box.
Howdy. Time sure does fly. The past two months have been jam-packed with exciting, and often unexpected surprises.
It all started with a visit from Matt's cousin, Rebecca St James who was recently in Australia on holiday. She came on tour with us to Sydney. She was a great merch girl for
us - decked out in an AB t-shirt, beanie... the lot. She is fast becoming a dear friend to us all.
We've been in Sydney a lot lately. We featured at the State Youth Games, where we were able to get a bit of exercise ourselves, which is something that normally doesn't happen on tour! Apart from the bus getting bogged (thanks to the team of guys and courageous girls who helped get us out- and the guy with the "Snatch and Tow" sticker on his 4WD), the biggest surprise of the weekend was when Naarah, beat Sam and myself in Archery (although only by a slim margin and it was only because Sam hurt his big toe and I kind of had a sore jaw).
There are all but two shows left on the "Alabaster Box Warm Winter Tour
2002". We had a great time with the folks in Bundaberg, Gladstone, Rockhampton, Mackey, Cairns, Townsville and Sydney. We were able to make a quick afternoon dash to the Great Barrier Reef's Green Island. Be sure to check out the 'pics' link at
www.alabasterbox.com
to view some pictures from around the world.
If you live in South-East QLD- be sure to make at least one of the following concerts:
Friday August 30, Alabaster Box Live- with Rookie and Audiology. Whitehill Church of Christ, 219 Whitehill Rd, Raceview (IPSWICH). INFO & TICKETS: 0413 320 965. DOORS OPEN- 7PM
Saturday August 31, Alabaster Box Live- with Rookie. "The Shed", Cnr Wylie and Ellen St, DALBY. INFO & TICKETS: 0413 320 965. DOORS OPEN-7PM
One of the greatest things about touring is the people we meet. In Gosford we played a concert with the
CCC Oxford Falls Youth Band. During our stay we were able to get to know a groovy girl called Bec (who by the way is a great promoter in the Gosford region...) and the chief himself, George (who gave our bus engine a good going over). Hearing their stories and how they have come to where they are was a real privilege.
Can I encourage you to take the time to make a concerted effort to get to know a few people. Sometimes God can speak to you through others experiences, and also God can use your faith to speak into someone else's life and encourage them.
For instance, on our way home from Townsville, Brett was driving the bus and I had the job of keeping him awake. At about 2am, in the middle of nowhere, we saw a guy hitch hiking. Normally, my natural instinct would be to drive on by but for some reason, we felt to pick him up. I was ready to renege on my stance as we approached him and yes a little (OK, very!!) nervous, because who would be walking on a desolate road at 2am, and why? To cut a long story short, after the first few nervous moments we told him that we were in a Christian band and were on tour. It turned out that he too was a Christian and a couple of months ago had come to a concert of ours about 1,500kms away! He was an encouragement to us, and we were able to encourage and help him out in a practical way.
Something that we have been learning is that most ministry occurs during one-on-one encounters or small group experiences.
Be encouraged to go and look for that one person that you can do something good for.
Thanks for your support and emails you all ROCK OUR WORLD!
Josh (On behalf of Alabaster Box).
PS: By the way, we had the rest of the band in the back of the bus sleeping and two crew...so if you are driving on a dark misty road in the early hours of the morning by yourself, we advise that you think twice about picking up strangers!
PPS: Thank you to large number of you who emailed us with questions regarding why we have not released dates for a southern Australian tour. Management is currently finalising the last few shows. Keep an eye out at
www.alabasterbox.com. |

23.08.02 - More Aussie gold.
From Wes Jay, Woodlands
Media | The Rock Across Australia.
Last week, TRAA presented a list of gold and platinum sellers by Australian artists. As we indicated, TRAA suspected there might be one or two other titles that should have been on the
list. As things would have it, we came across a December 1982 clipping from
"Australia's New Day" headlined the "first Australian produced gold gospel album".
The report says that CBS Records awarded Bob Goodfellow and
Graham Steel a gold record for a collection of Scripture songs called
"With My Hands Lifted Up". The album, released in 1972 on the Focus label, went gold in 1982. Bob produced the album, and Graham arranged the music. |

In the news this week, David Meece will perform at
AGMF next year. Kennedy International will release David's latest album "There I Go Again" later this year.
Christianitytoday.com this week profiles Adelaide's
Planet Shakers. The story "Revival Down Under" features an interview with Henry and Alex. The band's new album
"Reflector" is scheduled for release in Australia and NZ soon.
Hillsong's "Blessed" CD is #16 on ARIA's Australasian Top 20 albums chart this week, ahead of TISM, Alex Lloyd, Bic Runga, and Darren Hayes.
America's award winning CBS News Sunday Morning news magazine will feature
Newsboys this Sunday (US time). The program will focus on the growth of Christian music, as well as how relevant the music is to today's society. It should be available on cable in Australia/NZ. Incidentally, the Newsboys release their first remix
album "Newsboys Remixed" next month.
Melbourne singer-songwriter Nattasha Crestani has been nominated for Best Female Vocalist at the sixth
Australian Indy Country Music Awards.
Integrity Music (Australia) has announced that it now distributes the M2.0 and INO imprints. New releases from
Sara Groves and MercyMe, for example, will be distributed by Integrity. Current albums such as MercyMe's
"Almost There", Sara Groves' "Conversations" plus other INO/M2.0 back list will continue to be distributed by
Word Australia until the end of the year, when those titles too will switch to Integrity Music.
Randy Stonehill releases his new
CD "Edge of the World" on 22 October. It features duets with
Sara Groves and Phil Keaggy. Russ Taff, Noel Paul Stookey (of Peter, Paul & Mary), Larry Norman, Barry
McGuire, Phil Keaggy and Annie Herring also appear on a nostalgic tune Randy wrote about 70s Jesus Music.
Amy Grant is among eleven female artists to salute the late
Patsy Cline. "Remembering Patsy Cline" features Grant singing
"Back in Baby's Arms", Diana Krall covers
"Crazy", and Natalie Cole revives
"I Fall to Pieces". The late country legend, who died in a 1963 plane crash, would have turned 70 on 8 September.
Congratulations to Martin Fawkes and all the team associated with last weekend's
ACAN Musicians Breakfast in Melbourne. Hosted by
Claire Hazzard and Justin
Gall, the event featured many noteworthy performances including the
house2house band and Mic Mac
Mo. ACAN will present the Brisbane breakfast on 31 August, and Sydney breakfast on 7 September. It's well worth a visit. More

23.08.02 - TRAA Song Of The Week: Rebecca St James - 'Song Of Love'.
From Wes Jay, Woodlands
Media | The Rock Across Australia.
RSJ's song
"Song of Love" is the most added song on Christian radio this week.
We asked Rebecca how the song came about. She writes...
"When I was growing up, I often stayed at my grandparents house. They owned a beautiful, multi-storied house with flower gardens and fruit trees. It was such a comfort to go to that house because no matter how things changed around me, this place always stayed the same.
One of the sweetest things was waking up in the morning to the familiar sound of the birds singing outside my window. For the most part, they were rainbow lorikeets, whose song is more like a screech than anything else, but to my ears, it was beautiful. Beautiful because of what it represented-a sonic reminder of memories there in that old house.
To God's ears, the birds' singing is also beautiful because it represents their song of love to Him-a song of gratefulness for life and a new day! The birds' singing also teaches us that it doesn't matter how we sound when we sing to God. It matters only that our hearts are singing our own unique song of worship to Him. "Song of Love" is my way of expressing my love to Jesus."
Enjoy the "Song of Love" video here. |
23.08.02 - Carpetman keeps laying it down.
From Carpetman.
A couple of news items you may be interested in...
My first solo project "Azure" got an excellent review in the current issue of
"Computer Music" and I will be gigging at the Morrison Hotel (640 Stanley Street,
Woolloongabba, Brisbane) with Bluefish on Friday 30th August. It starts at 8:00 and its free entry.
"Azure" is featured in the Reader Interactive section of issue 50, the September edition of Computer Music, and it is included with the CD that comes with the mag. CM had nothing but good things to say about "Azure" (" a fine effort", "well though out harmonies", "sweet guitar licks", "plenty of space in the mix"), but if you want the whole story, get the mag (or email me for a full transcript). Its about $19, but the CD also includes a free software sampler and heaps of freebies to build up your home studio, so its good value for money. |

16.08.02 - TRAA Song Of The Week: 'Fly' - Jars of Clay.
From Wes Jay, Woodlands
Media | The Rock Across Australia.
Jars of Clay is the Most Played Act on Christian radio in Australia.
'Fly' is on high rotation at 53% of TRAA's reporting stations, and
'Something Beautiful', 47%. Some stations are playing both, while a smaller number are airing other songs from
"The Eleventh Hour".
Matt Odmark says that 'Fly' was one of the most difficult songs to write.
"It is the story of a man and a woman, who shortly after they were married, found out the once dormant cancer had returned to destroy her body. The couple spent their entire marriage in the hospital. Until one evening, while holding hands, he let her go. 'Fly' is about that moment. It is a song about hope, the hope we can only begin to explore when we are on the verge of eternity," he says.
'Fly' is #2 on TRAA Top 30 this week.
Check the Top 10 here.

16.08.02 - Radio update.

Talking about Sydney radio, the ABA has extended the closing date for submissions for the Sydney AM community radio licence on 1386kHz following requests from a number of interested applicants. Applications now close on 23 September 2002.

10.08.02 - Networker's dream.
From Wes Jay, Woodlands
Media | The Rock Across Australia.
One of the highlights of the Australian Christian music calendar is the
ACAN Musicians Breakfast. Around 150 artists and industry people get together in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane
(Sat 31 Aug) each year to share a meal together and enjoy the artist showcases.
Artists, youth leaders, journalists, radio presenters and programmers, distributors, marketing and management people, production personnel, event organisers and 'behind-the-scenes' people get together and network like crazy!

10.08.02 - TRAA Song Of The Week: 'Save My Soul' - Paul Colman Trio.
From Wes Jay, Woodlands
Media | The Rock Across Australia.
The number one song in the land is pc3's
'Save My Soul'. Paul explains why he wrote the song:
There are so many people in the current state of world events that are really questioning life, the cosmos, religion, faith and eternity. Many are turning to a western humanistic inspired version of Buddhism or Hinduism as it allows them to construct their own faith as it suits them. They are choosing reincarnation over judgement, self as saviour over a Christ figure, independence over submission, immediacy over long-term thinking, consumerism over sacrifice, and sex over monogamy.
'Save My Soul' is from the perspective of someone sharing the above set of values and yet they're starting to feel doubt and confusion now that post 11 Sept, the world seems to be crashing down. The song is a cry for help and an acknowledgment that maybe there is someone who can save their soul. Could God have created the world? Could He save me? It is a longing cry. Too often the church has put up walls to these people by asking them to 'become Christians'. We should be finding ways to invite people to engage Jesus of Nazareth rather than asking them to 'become' something else. We should offer a relationship, not a club mentality.
Jesus is the Saviour. He HAS saved our souls. |

02.08.02 - TRAA Song Of The Week: 'Goodbye' - Alabaster Box.
From Wes Jay, Woodlands
Media.
"I don't mind surprising people. I like that element in everything I do."
That's how Naarah Seagrott, lead singer Alabaster Box explains the dynamic new acoustic approach that makes the sextet's latest radio release one of the most radio friendly songs of the year.
Written by Ben Woodward, 'Goodbye' is an unmistakably modern song with a message that reminds us that God is always with us - even in the most difficult times.
"His presence is always with us," says Naarah. "No matter who we are or whether we believe in him or not, and no matter what we've done, his grace and mercy on our lives is far greater than anything," she says.
'Goodbye' is the fourth radio single released from the band's second CD,
'Main Attraction'. A radio edit is available on the 'Main Attraction 2002 Radio Singles' sampler issued to stations earlier this year. |
02.08.02 - Rebecca St. James turns 25 in 'Focus'.
From Wes Jay, Woodlands
Media.
Rebecca St. James celebrated the eve of her 25th birthday last week doing what she is most passionate about:
worshiping God. In this case, it was at last Thursday's (July 25th) opening of the 25th Anniversary Celebration of the
'Focus On The Family' ministries at their headquarters in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The ForeFront recording artist was given the unique privilege of a personal invitation from the FOTF executive staff to share her music and message at the Chapel Service which marked the official beginning of the four day Focus schedule of anniversary events. She was the youngest Contemporary Christian artist accorded the honor of participating in the praise and worship service, attended personally by ministry founder,
Dr. James Dobson, his family, and staff. ForeFront president
Greg Ham was among those in attendance.
The honor of her participation was not lost on Rebecca. She shared with the audience her commitment to the core values of the FOTF ministry-particularly the abstinence message-now a national hot button issue-but long a major message the young Australian singer has shared from concert stages all over the world. Her new book on the subject of sexual purity before marriage,
'Wait For Me', is being released in August by
Thomas Nelson. Before the packed Chapel audience, Rebecca sang her contemporary hits
'Wait For Me' and 'Breathe' as well as an abbreviated rendition of
'It Is Well With My Soul'.
How did it feel to share her 25th birthday week in the 'Focus On The Family' spotlight? Following a brief round of photos onstage with Dr. Dobson, Rebecca St. James, soon to be 25 and already a celebrated Christian singer and author, had a moment of quiet reflection on the birthday she would celebrate the next day at home in Nashville:
"I'm struck by the realisation that I've reached the quarter of a century mark in my life-it sounds pretty awesome in those terms!"
