Guess we'll have to check the liner notes when Amy's newie is released in May to see if this is true!

29.03.02 - Rivertribe - well deserved success.

From Wes Jay, Woodlands Media.

One of the most impressive, and well-deserved, success stories in recent Australian musical history is that of two Melbourne musicians who, in a relatively short space of time, have been catapulted into national and international limelight with some of the most original and innovative Christian music ever!

That duo is Rivertribe.

While the critical and popular acclaim they've garnered in the past two years has elevated them to the status of one of this country's major Christian acts, there's still the unmistakable feel that Rivertribe has only just begun to tap their creative potential. That's quite a claim, considering what they have accomplished.

Formed as a means of expressing worshipful meditation on the Scriptures in a culturally appropriate way, Rivertribe has found enthusiastic support among a wide audience.

They have performed on streets to big auditoriums, including the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, the Singapore River Festival, the Asia-Pacific Political Forum, Sydney Opera House, Melbourne International Festival, United Nations Day of the Older Person, and Awakening 2000 concert at Stadium Australia.

Rivertribe features Mike Lane on didgeridoo and African drums, Irish low whistle, Armenian duduk, Native American flute, Oriental flute and Bamboo saxophone, and David Gleeson on classical violin, percussion, didgeridoo and Native American flute.

With the release this week of their new CD 'Did You Feel The Mountains Tremble', Rivertribe takes its unique mix of meditative, spiritually charged instrumental music to the world. This project is the duo's third release, but its first international label release with Elevate Records. It follows two highly successful independent releases, Journey and The Blessing. Listen to samples of the new album here and, if you're attending AGMF, make sure you catch their performances.

All 11 tracks have been recorded and mixed and from initial reviews the band seem to be on a winner. Whilst the band's artist directors are collaborating over the CDs cover, the disc is being mastered down at Byron Bay with plans for a launch within the next two months. 14.03.02 - Tonjip on the prowl.

From Tonjip.

Tonjip are in town for 1 month and doing some shows. However, we are billing ourselves as special guests to use these shows as warm up gigs. Check out any shows that don't specify the special guest, it may be Tonjip. New single out exclusively for AGMF, it is a double A side with one previously unreleased Tonjip tune and one acoustic Tonjip tune. Two new funky t-shirt designs also available at AGMF. Remember, if you want to look good, Tonjip are the best dressed band in the business.

Peter Furhler from the News Boys thinks that Tonjip are the best new talent and is trying to get some USA interest happening with a few respondents. Keep us in your prayers.

14.03.02 - Groundswell volunteers needed.

From Nerida McCallum/Groundswell.

Groundswell is an all ages music and arts festival that has attracted a large crowd in Brisbane for 7 years. Not only does Groundswell provide some quality musical acts and showcases some great artwork, but it's purpose is to raise funds to cure blindness. Christian Blind Mission International (CBMI) is an international organisation dedicated to the prevention and curing of blindness, as well as to the education and rehabilitation of people who are blind or have disabilities. CBMI has got more that 57 ongoing projects in 24 countries. The Australian side of CBMI provides funds and resources for projects in both Australia and overseas. All of the proceeds of Groundswell go to CBMI - which makes a real difference to the quality of life of hundreds of people in Australia and developing countries.

We are asking for some help in the area of volunteers. The whole event runs on the time and energy of volunteers. From cleaners to stage hands there are many people needed to make the day functional. If you are keen to lend a hand, enjoy being around people and music and would like to be a part of giving someone the gift of sight, then here is the perfect opportunity.

Groundswell will be held on the 20th of July this year, so please contact me asap with your interest in volunteering for the day. Nerida McCallum - ph 3342 6433, mob 0412 776 905, email groundswell@powerup.com.au.

07.03.02 - AGMF: 'Frugals Final Hour'.

From Isaac Moody, Festival Co-ordinator - Australian Gospel Music Festival.

Many of you would now know that we have scheduled another special event into the 2002 Festival program - "Frugals Final Hour" on Easter Sunday afternoon starting at 1pm in the "Mullet TV Big Top" (Queen's Park, Toowoomba Qld).

I first saw the Frugals live at 'Groundswell' 1999 in Brisbane and from the outset I was convinced that this band were going to make a huge impact on the Australian scene. The Frugals, without a doubt, have always been musically pleasing and incredibly creative. Their crazy energy and spontaneous live shows have set them apart as leaders in their genre. The Frugals have been one of the most popular acts at the AGMF and have appeared every year since 2000. It is certainly a sad occasion for live Australian music, however, we are very honoured that the Frugals have chosen the AGMF as their musical conclusion.

Tickets for the "Frugals Final Hour" are included as a bonus for 3-Day Festival Package holders. They are also now available individually for $10 through the Festival hotline: 1800 66 55 11. We look forward to seeing you at Easter!

'Frugals Final Hour' Show, Sunday 31 March 2002, Australian Gospel Music Festival, Big Top, Queens Park, Toowoomba, with Thinktank, Wishful Thinking, The Sellouts. Doors open 1pm- Tickets $10 or included as part 3 day ticket, www.agmf.com.au.
