28.02.02 - Propulsion - mystery band revealed.

28.02.02 - Alabaster Box in India.

From Alabaster Box.

Here's a quick note from Brett (AB's guitarist) in India, Alabaster Box are currently on a trip to visit their Compassion Sponsor Child...

Dear friends,

Well words cannot explain Calcutta, there are 20million people of which 60% live under the poverty line. You drive on street after street and there are people everywhere, its dirty, crowded and like nothing out of the magazines. The driving is crazy, there is no lanes, just go for it and honk our horn. Amazingly we have not seen any crashes.

Today we started by visiting a school sponsored by Compassion. It was awesome, the kids are beautiful, we got to talk and spend time with them. They also put on an assembly and performance for us. Very touching.

We then went and saw the Queen Victoria monument which is a little like the Taj Mahal. Finally we finished the day with a trip to Mother Theresa's orphanage and where she lived. We saw the tomb of Mother Theresa, the sisters there heard that we were singers and asked some of us to sing. So Naarah, Ben and Lisa (Reynolds) sang Amazing Grace in the room where the tomb is, it was very moving. We then went to the orphanage, this was very sad. Many kids that have just been left have been rescued and are being brought up at the orphanage.

This all in our first day, I am so thankful for our life and country. We are so blessed.

Brett.

27.02.02 - RSJ - New 'Worship God' CD.

From Rebecca St. James.

Rebecca St. James"In Australia I grew up really experiencing a worship revolution that has also hit England. In both of these countries you see thousands of people, especially young people, coming together singing worship songs to God. It has been very powerful for me as a young person to see that and I always knew that this revolution would come to America. So it is exciting for me to see that happening now. Through my worship album I really want to help feed that hunger for worship. England has had a real impact on worship in America through people like Martin Smith of Delirious and Matt Redmond. "Let My Words Be Few" is an example of a song that has had and is having an amazing impact. I love the simplicity and honesty of the lyrics because the focus is very much on a simple love for God." -RSJ

Go to www.RSJames.com to hear the full track of "Let My Words Be Few".

The 'Worship God' album contains 6 known songs plus 5 NEW worship songs and 1 bonus track. Rebecca St. James' new CD is now available at MusiChristian.com for US$14.97 and includes a FREE 'No Secrets' video. Go to www.MusiChristian.com now for this great offer!

Also available is Fusebox's (Rebecca's live band) 'Lost In Worship' CD for US$9.49. Both Rebecca's and Fusebox's new releases are now available (or will soon be available) at your local Christian outlets as well.

27.02.02 - Brisbane performance opportunities.

From Chris Mundy.

The YMCA is running a pilot crime prevention program at the Albany Creek Skate Bowl in Brisbane. This program includes providing activities such as live bands, playstation vans and BBQ's every Friday and Saturday nights from 4:30 to 6:30pm.

They are looking for assistance in a couple of areas. Firstly, bands who can provide entertainment on Saturday nights. The audience is your average aussie teenager, so music appropriate to this age group is best. Payment may be minimal (or nothing) due to limited funding.

Secondly, they are looking for help with getting PAs and generators to run the events.

This is a great way to serve our community, and encourage young people to get into positive activities rather than destructive lifestyles. I personally work with these teenagers as their high school chaplain, and many struggle with depression, suicide, drugs and family breakdown. Being 'salt and light' through music is one way we can influence these kids positively.

If you're interested in performing or helping out in any of these areas, give the project manager Brett Box a call on 0402 783 381 or 07 3841 3574.

18.02.02 - National Christian music report names 2001 artist and song of the year.

From The Rock Across Australia.

Australia's independent Christian music charts, The Rock Across Australia, recently named Melbourne pop-rock trio, the Paul Colman Trio as TRAA Artist of the Year, and Third Day's powerful modern day hymn 'These Thousand Hills' as the TRAA Song of the Year.

Researchers found the Paul Colman Trio, which also won the award last year, gained more songs in the 2001 End of Year Top 100 than any other act, and spent a total of 15 weeks at the top of TRAA's weekly sales and airplay report.

These Thousand Days spent 37 weeks on TRAA mostly in the Top 10. Extraordinarily, it took 23 weeks before the contemporary worship song made the number one spot.

A second report analysing Christian radio station playlist data found the Paul Colman Trio was the Most Played Act, and True Vibe's 'Now and Forever' was the Most Played Song.

Six Aussies - Michelle Tumes, Newsboys, Rebecca St James, Paul Colman Trio, Claire Hazzard and Alabaster Box - secured positions in the Top 10 Most Played Songs report, proving that homegrown music is continuing to experience a boom in creativity.

The Rock Across Australia, referred to as TRAA within Christian music circles, researches national Christian album sales and radio airplay of Christian songs throughout Australia weekly. The reports are available on the internet: www.therockacrossaustralia.com.

18.02.02 - Sonfest 2002 - Boonah.

From Dale Bray, Sonfest.

Well Sonfest 2002 has come and gone. Steve, Bill and I have already thrown around ideas for 2003 and although we are tired we can't wait to do it all again. I really want to thank all those who attended for the first time and of course our friends from Sonfest 2001 who faithfully spread the word on Sonfest.

Sonfest 2002 brought us many great surprises, the least of these was the great attendance. We nearly doubled the attendance of 2001 and sold over 1000 tickets at the gate. These last minute tickets did put some pressure on some of the facilities but rest assured we will be ready for this last minute rush next year.

We received a great article in The Sunday Mail that took up a whole page. How great it is to see a truly evangelical event receive such a positive review in QLDs biggest paper.

Congratulations to the Rangeville Rangers from Toowoomba who won the Sonfest Cup Touch Football Competition. There was a great spirit down on the fields and It looks like the comp will be extended to take more teams in the round robin format next year.

Id like to thank everyone for showing such a Christ-like spirit throughout the entire weekend, especially when visiting the local businesses. Sonfest is all about being a witness for Christ. We witness to each other and the local community in everything we do, while at the same time receiving spiritual encouragement from the artists, speakers, electives and most importantly our friends and pastors. I want to encourage everyone to take this positive and caring attitude to your school and work place right throughout the year. As the Newsboys say... "shine, let them wonder what you've got".

Lastly, I would ask that you keep us in your prayers through out the year, Sonfest is a huge undertaking that takes around 10 months to organise. We had been blessed this year with great support and would really appreciate this again leading up to 2003. Thanks again for supporting the work of Sonfest. God Bless.

PS. Who's coming to Sonfest 2003?.....email bill@crossroad.com.au and tell us 3 bands you really want to see at Sonfest 2003 and any bands you don't want to see.

18.02.02 - Soulframe needs a tour bus!

From Soulframe.

Two things: 1. Thankyou to everyone who responded to our news with regards to our proposed tour locations. All your help is much appreciated.

2. We need a bus! In order to head off around the country in a couple of months time, we need to buy ourselves a tour vehicle and we were hoping that someone out there might be able to help us! Basically, we are looking for a 22-seater mini-bus (or something similar) that would be capable of getting us and our gear around the country (the degree of style in which it does so is not something we are too concerned about... just as long as it gets there!).

So if you happen to have a suitable vehicle just lying around not being used, or if you belong to a church, school or other organisation might be interested in selling theirs to a band in need.... PLEASE LET US KNOW!!

Thanks for your help and support. Hopefully we'll see you all at a show sometime in the coming months. May He continue to rock your universe from the inside out.

15.02.02 - Lions Den Cafe.

09.02.02 - Interim releases their exciting debut single 'Part of Design' on February 18th 2002!

From Interim.

Mix the 60's style of 'That thing you do' with the independent guitar sound of British rock and you've got Interim's latest single 'Part of Design'. Produced by Scott Mullane whose recent production and engineering credits include Alabaster box, Soulframe and The Frugals, this debut release is set to become one of the most exciting Australian songs to hit Christian radio this year.

"Part of Design is about God's sovereignty over every situation", states the band. "No matter how bad an experience might be, God can work through it for our good". The song encapsulates this joyful message with a melody that will have you singing for hours, and a rhythm that listeners can't help but clap along with.

Brisbane band 'Interim' have a career spanning six years, displaying a musical and lyrical maturity unmet by many in the Australian Christian music scene. Recent performances include the Australian Gospel Music Festival, Sonfest and NCYC 2001. Their line up features guitarists Matt Newton and Steve Moss, singer/songwriter Chris Mundy, bassist Darren Bryett and drummer Dale Crump. This is the first release in their musical history, and it has been well worth the wait. 'Part of Design' has all the elements of a hit radio song, and captures the heart of the great 'Interim' sound.
