25.01.02 - Mundy makes his mark on the world.

From Chris Mundy.

In a society that is driven by selfish motives, technology and scandals, Australian Christian pop artist Chris Mundy would rather make a difference than give up hope. And that's what he hopes listeners to his latest album 'Welcome to the World' will do.

Chris was recently awarded second place at Brisbane's FM96.5 Creative Challenge, was a finalist in the national Australian Songwriter's Association competition and his new single 'Welcome to the World' is being played on Christian radio across the country. The UK's leading Christian music magazine 'Crossrhythms' also awarded the album top marks. His previous EP release 'Leave' gained similar success in the Christian music world during 2000, delivering a style Australian Christian audiences have been longing for. Describing his material as 'radio friendly pop/rock', he says this type of music is sadly lacking in the more alternative environment of Australian Christian music.

The lyrics on his latest offering also reflects a social conscience rarely displayed in Christian music. "Christian music can get so predictable", states Chris. "I think it has become too individualistic which is a reflection of our western mindset. Christian music needs to be more concerned for others and the world in which we live. I want to be an artist who not only talks about who my faith is in, but the implications of my faith for daily living and real life issues".

It is this conviction that drives Chris Mundy as he seeks to build a bridge between the church and mainstream society. Songs such as 'Tightrope' highlight the need for the church to be involved in more crucial areas of the western world. "Tightrope is about the balance we have to maintain between our leaps and bounds in technology, and ethics. We need the wisdom to use new discoveries for good and Godly purposes and Christians need to play a role in this".

However other issues addressed on Chris' CD are far more personal. The title track explores the feelings of a first time father, while 'Carry Me' touches on death and grief. "Dealing with this stuff is all important to God", says Chris. "Without acknowledging our struggles we fail to grow in our faith and we fail to become more mature human beings".

Chris' recent festival performances at the Australian Gospel Music festival, Sonfest and Blackstump have captivated audiences with this timely message for the modern church. The Brisbane artist hopes to take his music further across Australia during 2002, performing for churches, youth groups and at functions that address important issues. "Essentially my music is all about how we make this world a better place. It is about being the salt of the earth that slows down the decay around us".

'Welcome to the World' is available at Christian Bookshops around Australia, and you can check out the Chris Mundy website at www.chrismundy.stop21.com. You can also book Chris to perform at your church or concert by contacting the Trevor Edwards Agency on 07 5476 6324 or teagency@bigpond.com.

21.01.02 - Australia's Paul Colman Trio signs international recording and management deal.

From Wes Jay, Woodlands Media.

The Paul Colman Trio has signed an international recording deal with Nashville-based Essential Records, and a management contract with Alabaster Arts Management. In announcing the record deal, Essential Records welcomed the energetic, acoustic-driven Paul Colman Trio to its roster. "We are delighted to have the Paul Colman Trio join us here at Essential," said Robert Beeson, president and founder of Essential Records. "I've been following their ministry for some time and truly believe they are a natural fit with the values and goals of our company."

Named "Artist of the Year" in 2000 and 2001 by The Rock Across Australia (TRAA) chart, the trio has dominated the Australian airwaves with relentless radio success. The band's nine singles have all charted in the Top 5, including two No. 1 hits with "Turn" and "Sundown", and "Your Sweet Voice" reaching No. 2, while spending 44 weeks on the charts.

Formed in 1998 in Melbourne, Australia, the Paul Colman Trio, affectionately referred to as PC3, is Paul Colman (lead singer/songwriter/guitarist), Grant Norsworthy (bass/vocals), and Phil Gaudion (drums/percussion/vocals). Having released four independent albums, titled Serious Fun, Turn, PC3 Live Electric and PC3 Live Acoustic, the group is known for its unparalleled live shows and has been selling out venues for the past four years. They have toured extensively in Australia and the U.S. performing with such well-known contemporary Christian artists as Third Day, P.O.D., Jennifer Knapp, Newsboys, and Jars of Clay.

"The Paul Colman Trio's music has certainly made an impression on me," commented fellow Essential Records artist Matt Odmark of Jars of Clay. "Their message is powerfully woven through great songs." The group's debut label project tentatively titled "Bridges", produced by Monroe Jones (Third Day, Ginny Owens, Caedmon's Call, Chris Rice) is scheduled for release in May. The album will feature the same signature pop/rock sound that PC3's fans have grown to expect.

In the meantime, the trio will remain busy on the road with Third Day's "Come Together" tour, which kicks off in mid-February and runs through early May. Following the tour, they will embark on the U.S. summer festival circuit before gearing up for another national tour later in the year.

Essential Records, founded in 1992, specialises in creating relevant pop, alternative, and modern music. Its artist roster includes Third Day, Jars of Clay, True Vibe, FFH, and Caedmon's Call. "It is an honor to be working among such great artists in contemporary Christian music," comments Paul Colman. Essential Records, and its affiliated label, Watershed Records, are distributed through Crossroad in Australia and Parachute Music in New Zealand.

In a related move, Alabaster Arts President Steve Thomas announced that the Paul Colman Trio has joined his management roster. The Alabaster Arts management roster includes OC Supertones, Relient K, The Elms, and Katy Hudson. The company seeks to communicate the faithfulness of God to the world through the arts. "Paul, Grant and Phil are really hard workers. We're pleased to partner with them as they go to the next level becoming international touring and recording artists," says Steve. "We're really excited to see what the Lord has in store for us as we step into some new areas of ministry," Paul adds.

17.01.02 - Big PC3 news.

From Paul Colman Trio.

The Paul Colman Trio is very pleased to announce a new partnership with Essential Records, USA. The deal was finalised last December in Nashville as we were working on a new "international" studio album. It sees pc3 added to a first class stable which includes Jars of Clay and Third Day. We're all looking forward to a long and fruitful association.

In addition, we are very excited to announce the end of our days of self management. The Paul Colman Trio is now managed by a team headed by Steve Thomas of Nashville-based Alabaster Arts, in collaboration with The Charter Resource Group

The new pc3 studio album, produced by Monroe Jones and tentatively titled "Bridges", will be released internationally through Essential on 28 May 2002.

We are expecting a great deal of our work in the future to be happening in the United States. After the Sonfest (Australia) and Parachute (New Zealand) Festivals, we are heading Stateside to commence a three month tour with Third Day and Bebo Norman. For detailed tour information check our website (www.paulcolmantrio.com) or Third Day's (www.thirdday.com). Following that tour, we will embark on a circuit of US summer festivals. Exactly when we will be back in the southern hemisphere is uncertain. But pc3 is, and will always be, proudly Australian and committed to touring Australia and New Zealand as frequently as possible.

So, if you're in Australia or New Zealand, here are your last few chances to catch pc3 live for some time. We hope they're within travelling distance for you: Click here for the concert dates.
