- Concert of hope and encouragement.
From Woodlands Media.
Australia's leading country-gospel singer Steve Grace returns to Brisbane on Sunday 11 November to present a concert of hope and encouragement in these uncertain times.
Brisbane is one of 70 Australian centres to host his concerts over the next few months.
Steve performs songs from his ninth album, Follow, plus concert
favourites including Big Dreams and Australian Country
Towns.
After working as a truck driver 15 years ago, the country-influenced singer-songwriter has pioneered a path that has taken him to hundreds of cities and regional towns throughout Australia, as well as the USA, Thailand, Solomon Islands, Philippines, New Zealand, New Guinea, Israel, Holland, Finland and Canada.
Australia's biggest selling country music performer, Slim
Dusty, recently recorded one of Steve's songs for his 100th album.
The Australian radio industry has presented Steve with two major awards for songwriting, and the Gospel Music Association of America voted Steve as the International Artist of the Year in 1996.
Steve's debut album Children of the Western World (1988) has achieved gold certification in Australia selling more than 35,000 copies.
The 2001 Follow tour sees Steve travel the length and breadth of Australia, from Cairns to Melbourne, and from Sydney to Perth, performing in churches, local halls, as well as large concert venues. Steve's music is accompanied by a large screen visual presentation.
"It's a concert of hope and encouragement for people living in uncertain times," says Steve.
Steve Grace performs at Brisbane's Liberty Fellowship, Logan Central, Sunday 11 November 6 pm. Admission is free.
For details on other concerts check out Steve's website: www.stevegrace.com.

- Chris Mundy - "Welcome to the World".
From Chris
Mundy.
Just when you're about to give up hope in a world of pop beset by drab fashion and sugar coated cover versions, along comes the much needed antidote,
Chris Mundy. With a veritable catalogue of hit songs in his locker, Chris challenges the conventions of pop songwriting while delivering vocals that jump right out of the speakers.
The new album is entitled "Welcome to the
World". The material is immediate, contemporary and radio friendly, thanks again to the working relationship with producer
Stuart Stuart, who’s recent production credits include
Anuj, Seventh Avenue and
Josie 7.
"The whole theme of the album challenges the listener to wake up and look at the world around them", states Chris. "Musically we have tried to achieve this by mixing technology with my passion for guitar based songwriting, so there's heaps more loops and stuff, but heaps more guitars too".
Lyrically, the album also ventures into new territory, touching on subjects relevant to modern society. Songs such as the title track 'Welcome to the World', 'A Voice' and 'Turn Another Page' touch on issues like relationships, poverty and postmodernism in the 21st century. "The album asks a lot of questions I think we should be asking ourselves as individuals and as a society" Chris explains. "It identifies with the struggles we have in making this world a better place, and where love, ethics and spirituality fit into the picture".
Yet the most appealing thing about "Welcome to the World" is its pop sensibility. The collaboration between Chris Mundy and Stuart Stuart are just the right ingredients to meld radio friendliness with musical credibility in this exciting new release.
"I am really excited about this release, and I hope you are too........its taken the past 10 months of my life to complete and I think it has some of the best songs I've ever written on it."

You can hear interviews with me on various stations around Australia in the next few weeks, including ABC Radio National, Light FM Toowoomba and Rhema Geelong. Listen out for my new single, 'Welcome to the World' which has been added to many playlists around the country. |

- Australian Gospel Music Festival Special to screen on 7.
From Australian Gospel Music Festival.
Christian Television Australian (CTA) has announced that a one-hour television special recorded at this year’s
Australian Gospel Music Festival in Toowoomba, Queensland, will screen nationally on the
Seven Network on Sunday, 9th December at
2pm (was going to be 2nd December at 1pm).
CTA Chief Executive, Greg Gardiner, said interest in Gospel music is growing. "Recent articles in Australian and American news magazines have all pointed to the fact that there is significant interest in Gospel music, and this was borne out in Toowoomba last Easter with a record attendance."
"We’re delighted that Seven has scheduled the Special in such a great timeslot" he said.
The Australian Gospel Music Festival Special features some of Australia’s best-known and up-and-coming Christian music artists. These include
Colin Buchanan, Adrian
Ross, the Paul Colman Trio, Steve Grace and
Claire Hazzard. The Special is hosted by Gospel
Artist Vaughan Famularo.
The program is a showcase of various musical styles, from children’s and country music through to modern dance music. There are also interviews with each artist, exploring issues of life, faith, and their own particular music style.
"This program may challenge some preconceived ideas about Gospel music for some people, as it presents the contemporary face of 21st Century Australian Christianity and the people shaping its future through music" Mr Gardiner said.
"And there’s a genuine honesty from the artists about their life and their faith journey that is refreshing and attractive, which is rather poignant in the current times when many people are concerning themselves with life’s big questions" he said.
CTA also produces a weekly music program for the Seven Network. This half-hour program is called
One and screens Sundays at 6am. |

- Wanted Alive or Alive.
From Celebration
Vocal Band.
Brisbane female harmony group the Celebration Vocal
Band (CVB) who celebrated their tenth anniversary in ministry earlier this year is seeking new vocalists for 2002 and beyond. CVB could be described as one of Brisbane's quite achievers having last year sung to a conservatively estimated audience of 30 000 people over 47 bookings.
This unique group has had a great deal to offer the Brisbane church community and this is your opportunity to play an active ministry role as a vocalist. Our present trio of
Sue Glosko, Barbara Chapman & Koda-Jo Berry have a total of 27 years service in CVB incorporation between them, the person we are looking for would have a similar level of commitment.
Next year the line up must change as Koda-Jo starts to pursue a solo career and leaves the group. Barbara Chapman also has time constraints due to the release of her solo CD
"Undercover".
So are you interested in walking into a already functioning and effective, ministry based singing outfit with an active gig record you’ve just found it. However please consider this, you MUST have a calling on your life for music ministry to take this on. The successful applicant/s will receive professional vocal development by
Queensland Opera’s Mark Kroon, and no you won’t sound like Melba, think more "Point of Grace". You will also be choreographed, songs will be arranged (parts), outfitted for presentations (at cost) and supported by years of experience and know how by the present crew.
If you want to know more then call our secretary Rob Chapman on 3372 4129. Or

Myagi is undergoing some fairly fundamental changes with the departure of lead singer, Dan. This will be after some recording planned for late November. The evolution of the band's meloncholy sound and Dan's leaving is impetus for a lineup change. Mike (guitar) and Josh (bass) will be staying where they are. Andy (drummer) is moving to an odd-bodd role, doing percussion, keyboard and backing vocals. Myagi's influences include: (old) Something for Kate, Adam Again, any 80s goth-rock band, Roadside Monument, Sounds Like Sunset, Leonard Cohen etc.

- Songs of hope in uncertain times.
From Woodlands
Media.
Recent events in the US have seen many people hurt, confused and fearful for the future. People are searching for answers and a sense of hope.
At a time like this, Contemporary Christian Music can play a part. Whether it's Psalm 46, ("God is our refuge and strength, a present help in time of need.") or music by the
Paul Colman Trio, Steve Grace, Delirious or
Amy Grant, Christian music:
* encourages us turn our eyes on Him and pray for the current and developing world situation, and
* assures us that we can find hope and answers when, as Wayne Watson sings, "we take the pains of earth to the doors of heaven".

- Paul Colman Trio launches PC3 live CDs and video.
From Woodlands
Media.
If you're somewhere between 12 and 50, and you've listened to Christian radio in this country, you've probably heard the
Paul Colman Trio - many times!
From its beginnings in 1998, The Paul Colman Trio has also carved a formidable reputation for its powerful live performances across Australia, New Zealand, and the US.
Hailed as Artist of the Year by The Rock Across Australia charts earlier this year, PC3's success can now be traced with the release of the PC3 Live collection: two CDs - PC3 Live - Electric, PC3 Live - Acoustic, plus the PC3 Video Collection 1998-2001.
PC3 Live - Electric captures the magic of the trio's live performances with 11 songs including an extended version of
Dip featuring Adrian Ross on didgeridoo, plus the previously unreleased
See My Baby. This CD also features the talents of
Adam Lester on guitars, and Derek Bailey on keyboards.
PC3 Live - Acoustic sees the trio in unplugged mode, and presents 11 songs including three previously unreleased songs -
Selfish Song, Forever Friend and Africa.
PC3 Live - The Video Collection 1998 to 2001 includes film from Sydney and Melbourne concerts, plus extensive behind the scenes, backstage, and other never seen before footage of the group, as well as three video clips -
Turn, Run and Fill My
Cup.
The live CDs and video collection give an insight into the band, tracing the trio's history from the release of Serious Fun though to today.
Not only are the CDs and video "compulsory musts" for any fan of the trio, they are also a great appetizer for anyone interested in hearing and seeing great Australian Christian music. |

- Win a date with Dan.
From Squipplepippy.
It is my pleasure to announce our latest competition:
Win a Date with Dan. So what do you have to do to win this, the most excellent of prizes? Answer the following, and send your answer along with your name and some form of contact details to
iwannadatedan@squipplepippy.com.
The question: What pick-up line would you use on Dan to seduce him?
Entries will be stripped of all details and Dan will choose the winner from the pick up lines themselves, clearly this is not entirely serious, and so the wittiest, funniest, and most original entry will win. Dan will be unaware of his date until he and the lucky winner meet on the date itself. The date must occur in the greater Brisbane region and from what I hear, will be most impressive, so get those entries coming in. Entries close 30th November 2001, and the winner will be notified by
Squipplepippy.com to arrange a time and date for your date with Dan. |
