- Would the real Alabaster Box please
stand up.
From Site Admin.
Last week we were personally contacted by the Commonwealth People's Festival
people and told that Alabaster Box
had confirmed 3 performance dates in the city as part of their
festival. This wasn't incorrect - it seemed that they forget to
let us know actually which Alabaster Box it was. Most of you would
be aware of the very popular Alabaster
Box from the Gold Coast who have been touring around the
country promoting their new CD 'Main
Attraction', but fewer people are aware of the Alabaster
Box from Africa (Ghana, to be more precise). It is this
African Alabaster Box that have been booked for the festival, not
our local favourites.
Matt Smallbone, the Australian Alabaster Box's bass
guitarist, rang during the week wondering what was going on as
none of the band knew anything about the booking. It was only then
that the mix-up was discovered, and quite an unusual one it was at
that. It makes you wonder how many other Alabaster Boxes there
are out there.
So if you go into the city to watch Alabaster Box play, keep in
mind that they are unlikely to play 'Show
Me' or any of their other favourites no matter how loud you
shout and scream at them. Still it might be worth a try.

- Lisa Reynolds wins Sunnie awards.
From Lisa
Reynolds.
I was over the moon to find out that I was nominated in 3 categories in the recent
Qld Sunnie Music Awards... Best Female
Vocal, Best New Talent and Best Song
Folk/Ethnic/Other. I received a Certificate of Achievement for
Best Album Gospel and won the biggest and most popular category the Sunnies have...
Best Songwriter. God has just blown me away with this, as I entered five categories and received recognition in each one.
What makes it even more exciting is the fact that I specifically entered these awards to try to bring glory to God and to show non-Christians that Christian music is NOT lame or airy-fairy (a popular belief in some non-Christian minds today... I even believed it myself once), that God is relevant and God is 'QUALITY'.
God honoured me and the desire of my heart and in turn, brought honour and glory to Himself. What an honour, what a privilege... WHAT A GOD!!!!

- New community radio licence for Brisbane.
From the The Australian Broadcasting Authority.
The Australian Broadcasting Authority has decided to allocate a new community radio licence for Brisbane.
The licence, to provide a service on 96.5 Mhz on the FM band, will be allocated to
Family Radio Limited (Family Radio). The licence will commence from 1 November 2001.
"Family Radio was able to demonstrate that its service would meet an otherwise unmet need in the Brisbane community," said Professor David Flint, ABA Chairman. "The applicant satisfied the ABA that its programming would meet a significant need. The many letters of support the ABA has received indicate that listeners approve of the Christian content and the 'family friendly' style of programming."
The licence has been allocated after community consultation during the licence area planning process and during the assessment process.
The ABA made two community radio broadcasting licences available following the completion of the Brisbane licence area plan in December 2000. Six applications were received for the FM licence (96.5 MHz) and four applications for the AM licence (1197 kHz).
The ABA is unable to allocate the AM licence at this stage, as it requires further information. The four applicants for this licence will be invited by the ABA to provide further information to substantiate their claims. These groups - Brisbane Interactive Radio Group Inc. (Switch FM), Silver Memories Community Radio Association Inc., Greater Brisbane Radio Broadcasters Inc. (Pulse FM) and Radio Queensland Inc. - will be given a further six weeks to provide the ABA with additional information.
To contact the new licensee, please call Mr Haydn Sargent, Station Manager, Family Radio Limited, on (+61-7) 3217 5999.
Media contact: Donald Robertson, ABA Manager Media and PR, on (02) 9334 7980.
