AUGUST 2001 NEWS

24.08.01 - Rising Star Award.

Singer-songwriter Nattasha Crestani is nominated for the 2001 Rising Star Award at the Independent Australian Country Music Awards. Nattasha has also been asked to perform at the awards evening in October. This news comes hot on the heels of Nattasha being named Grand Finalist for the 2001 Golden Saddle Award in Sydney in September.

Nattasha is booked for many high-profile festival performances/appearances including the Red Hill Music Festival, Mildura Country Music Festival, The Saddle Up Club in Albury, The Royal Melbourne Show, Berwick Show, the Galston Country Music Festival, and the 2002 Tamworth Country Music Festival.

Her song "Million Dollar You" has been charting on radio around Australia and she has performed the song on national TV. Check out her website at: www.nattasha.com.

24.08.01 - Void If Removed (formerly Furthermore).
From Void If Removed.

Shane (Eggy) the Guitarist / Vocalist / Songwriter from Furthermore formed another band with four other talented musicians to take on the mantle that rocked the nation. Simeon Webster the Drummer / Vocalist / Songwriter, also from Furthermore is now a Partner / Producer / Engineer in the band. Simeon has started a record label which Void If Removed is now part of. The Record Label will be released soon. If you loved Furthermore's energetic style & atmosphere to communicate their message, then you have found a new band at heart, Void If Removed.

When we decided to start Void If Removed we all knew we had different music backgrounds and could go in any direction we wanted, musically speaking. Void If Removed has taken all their different sounds and ideas and changed them, melting them into a sound that is there own. Ingredients: POPRock, Rapcore, Techtronic.

VIR are very dedicated in representing Christ & encourage people to have a positive relationship with God. They choose to use their music as an expression to God in all forms and styles.

24.08.01 - Where is Dixie.
From Steven Dix.

Plans for a follow up album to 'Restless' are well underway. With the enthusiastic response from media outlets like 'Music Country' and radio in general to 'Restless', we are very excited about the potential of releasing new material. We hope to enter the studios in Brisbane in November with a release early next year... unless someone with a marketing budget gets involved... Who knows what could happen with men in suits?

16.08.01 - Fiery Fergus is back in action.
From Fiery Fergus.

After a busy start to the year, we have had a short break, but we will be back in action on the 15th September, and this time we will have our debut CD ready, hot off the burner. You can read explanations for each of the songs on my EP and on "Whatever It Takes" as well as a new interview I put in the Media section. Somewhere in there I also talk about why I'm not singing for the next six months, and the Biography has been expanded by a country mile.

16.08.01 - Soulframe Live Chat.
From Site Admin.

Monday night was once again bubbling with excitement as Mutto, Hayden and Scott from Brisbane Christian band Soulframe hurried into the chatrooms soon after 8pm to get into the swing of things thrilling their fans to around 3 hours of non-stop chat. And they didn't disappoint! Not only were they the special guests of our fourth Monday night Live Chat run on a Q&A basis, but they chatted freely with fans before and after the official Live Chat. It was a historic chat occasion to be remembered by all who participated for a long time.

The full transcript of the Soulframe Live Chat will be on-line Friday in the Chat section where you can already read the transcripts of our previous Live Chats with Nagasaki, Alabaster Box and the Paul Colman Trio.

Don't miss this Monday's Live Chat with everyone's favourite Australian Christian ska band The Frugals from 9pm in our chatrooms.

13.08.01 - Nagasaki and Paradox go down in thriller.

As what only can be described as an absolute nail biter, local Brisbane Christian bands Paradox and Nagasaki went down fighting last night in the Final of the Queensland Rock Awards, held at The Arena in Fortitude Valley. Coming in first and second in the hearts of many people there, Nagasaki and Paradox put on shows worthy of true Queensland Rock Awards champions. But this wasn't to be either band's year.

Starting at 3pm and not finishing until after 1am, the Final showcased the top 15 bands from around Queensland from the 197 bands that made it into the heats. It was such a great feat for two Christian bands to make the final of a secular event such as this one, and they didn't let the crowd down showing why they had both made it into the Final in the first place.

To sing so openly about aspects of Christianity in front of predominantly non-Christian patrons and judges is always a risky thing to do. But that's what Paradox and Nagasaki do best. You could almost see Nagasaki's chances of a top 3 spot fade as lead vocalist Charlie briefly quoted scripture and mentioned the bible before their crowd favourite 'Stand'. But that's 'no compromise rock n roll' for you.

Charlie said afterwards, "We were really blessed by all our friends who gave up their whole Sunday to come and support us, thank you all very much. It was a great opportunity for us to play at an awesome venue and share our faith with a crowd that needs to hear it. I believe that Retrospect was the best band on the night and were worthy winners. We hope that more bands who follow Jesus enter band competitions everywhere as it is a great way to reach secular society."

The quality of all the bands was so high that the organisers said that it was the best final in the competition's 31 year history.

Paradox frontman Bernard Hellmann said this morning, "Our message is JESUS, and I'm not sure that our message is a pre-requisite for the Queensland Rock Awards! But be encouraged!!! We had the privilege of being able to lead one of the judges in the sinners prayer in the time of our attending the awards, and for that, it has been worth the while. We saw seeds sown, demons manifest, but most of all "the Light shine in the darkness". Thank you. We would like to encourage Nagasaki, they went off, and we saw GOD glorified through their performance. Be encouraged Nagasaki! You go off..."

Congratulations to the winners. And even more so, congratulations to Paradox and Nagasaki for proving once again that you can play 'full-on Jesus music' in pubs and clubs and have people from all walks of life screaming out for more.

02.08.01 - Paradox & Nagasaki through to the Queensland Rock Awards grand final showdown - hosted THIS Sunday.
From Paradox.

Two Brisbane bands who just happen to be Christian have beaten the odds to appear at the Qld Rock Awards this Sunday 12 August 2001. Paradox and Nagasaki have walked in their faith to be one of the 15 acts that will perform before an expected crowd of 1500 people this weekend.

It began 4 months ago with over 200 bands, but few have stood the test like Paradox & Nagasaki, who consistently draw good crowds. This weekend will prove to be no different at the Qld Rock Awards to be staged from 3pm at the Arena Entertainment complex 210 Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley.

Lead singer/Guitarist for Paradox, Bernard Hellmann invites people to take the only path that works and said "Our Faith has taught us not to rely in our strength, but rely in the faith of our Savior".(Ps 37:3-5.)

Mr Hellmann closed by saying that it was the reason he felt they had been brought this far and was looking forward to the Rock Awards on the Weekend.

For ticket sales contact Paradox: Virginia Hellmann on 07 3885-7751, 0411 322 077, paradoxband@optusnet.com.au or Nagasaki: nagasakitheband@hotmail.com.

02.08.01 - Steve Grace touring and new single.
From The Rock Across Australia.

Steve Grace is taking his "Follow Jesus" tour to more than 70 Australian cities and towns over the next few months.

His new single 'Freeway Dreaming', from his latest album 'Follow', is now being played on radio stations all around Australia.

02.08.01 - Main Attraction single.
From The Rock Across Australia.

Taking a leaf out of Steve's book is Alabaster Box. The Gold Coast pop-rock sextet sets off on the national leg of the Main Attraction tour before heading off to NZ, Singapore and the US.

While Alabaster Box has set its sights on musical excellence and can command headline status across this country, Naraah says the band's aim is not about promoting itself as the main attraction.

"It's about making God famous," she says.

"When the bright lights fade, and the crowds are gone I'm left with only you... my God... you're the main attraction and I'm learning how to love you," she sings.

The title song from the album and the tour has just been released as the first radio single.
