Forming in late 2003, the refrains are truly a national band with members representing Queensland, Canberra, Victoria and New South Wales. Drawing on influences such as Bob Marley, Michael Franti, the Roots and the Resin Dogs, and combining ex-members of Never Pay Retail, Lightly Salted Peanuts, Nagasaki and the Winnie Coopers, the refrains create a distinctive and tasty blend of reggae, soul and hip hop music. This powerful seven piece delivers
memorable live shows that are guaranteed to get cabooses shaking and heads nodding of all ages. The lyrical content of the band addresses pertinent social, spiritual and global issues that affect us all and definitely believe in making challenging music that has something to say. The group has released a pre-release promo single entitled,
'Where to go' (dj indelible mix) which has received airplay on Triple J's Hip Hop program. The refrains are currently recording their debut ep, "What we fighting for?" which will be released in June.
