NEVER PAY RETAIL (NPR) formed in December
'97. A week and one rehearsal later they played their first show. Playing at a ratio of 3:1 MxPx songs and using borrowed gear, the sound was at best, just bearable. Undeterred, they began putting on their own
shows in any halls that they could find. In August
'98 they got their first real break playing in front of five
hundred + people at Springwood, Blue Mountains, in the local high school
auditorium. Since then NPR hasn't looked back playing everywhere from
someone's backyard to the Iron Duke Hotel. More known for their explosive and rebellious onstage presence than their musical polish.
NPR's main influences flow from bands such as, MxPx, Millencolin and Rancid.
NPR has spent a few sessions recording and has come out with
a number of songs to sample. Their first recording "Never Going Back" appears on the first
"Exposed" Compilation CD, which was funded by the NSW Ministry for the Arts and Bankstown Council. And their latest recording "Locked Up", has just appeared on "Boot to Head" Records
current compilation CD "Lost , Lonely, Vicious", which is being distributed in the US, and is
rumoured to be coming out in Australia. Plans are being set now for the release of
NPR's EP in
late 2000. The song "Never Going Back", was on rotation on 96.1FM. You can currently catch NPR
sounds on 99.9 FM, 90.1.FM and North FM 100.1.
