John Manly originally based in Melbourne, has now made Queensland's Hervey Bay his home base. As a singer/songwriter/guitarist, he has performed in and around Melbourne in the late 80's to mid 90's. With three self-financed cassette singles to his credit, John Manly continues to mature as a performer and a songwriter. He as written dozens of songs, ranging from Rock to Pop and from Christian to Country.
John developed an interest in music at the age of twelve, teaching himself to play guitar and write his own songs. Over the next few years, he became involved in the music ministry of his home church, plus becoming involved playing in several garage bands.
October 1990, saw the release of John Manly's first self-financed cassette-single, "I'm A Rebel." The release recieved steady airplay on several of Melbourne's community radio stations, including 3WRB & 3RIM. "I'm A Rebel" was followed by two more cassette singles. "Get Wise" July 1991 and "With Love" April 1994.
John's faith and life experiences are evident in his songs. Covering a wide variety of topics. Subjects include: His own spiritual walk; The Father's loving forgiveness; Sexuality; Broken Relationships; Poverty V Greed.
John has absorbed many of the secular and Christian music styles into his own, which is sure to reach many people. Some of his influences over the years have included: Tim Finn, Crowded House, Peter Shurley, Kenny Marks, Micheal W. Smith, David Meece and many others.
Most noted for his Christian performances in the early 90's. John Manly performed in many Churches, Youth Groups, Schools and Coffee Shops.
Over the last few years John has been taking a break from music to focus on other activities and settle into his new surroundings.
Currently, John has started writing again and hopes to commence performing again sometime early 2005, with new material inspired by his life's ups and downs over the last couple of years. |
