In a world of pop dominated by drab fashion and endless cover versions, along comes the
much needed antidote - Chris Mundy. With a veritable catalogue of hit songs in his
locker, Chris has caught the attention of the Australian music scene with his recent EP
release 'LEAVE'. His father, a prominent Brisbane guitar teacher, weened the young
Chris on classic rock and pop tunes.
Commencing with the duo 'Silent Partner' in 1994,
and progressing to the indie-pop outfit 'Thrive' in 1996, Chris has been steadily carving
his niche on the local music scene for a number of years. Now performing as a solo artist
(and with his band 'Interim'), CRAM magazine recently hailed Chris' release as having
the "right ingredients for a smashing success, not only in this country, but
internationally."
Bio
Singer/songwriter Chris Mundy grew up on rock
and roll in the north Brisbane suburb of Ferny Hills. The son of guitar
teacher Alan Mundy, Chris couldn’t help but follow in his father’s
footsteps, influenced by the jazz and early rock tunes he would hear
until his first guitar lesson at age 5.
Dabbling in classical flute and choral tuition
during his school years, Chris made a return to his rock and roll roots
during his late teens. Taking a passionate interest in singing, song writing
and guitar playing, Chris formed the duo ‘Silent Partner’ in 1993
with his piano teacher, Tony Sercombe. Driven by the young songwriter’s
original pop tunes, they played at various parties, concerts and
schools, eventually leading to some local airplay on South-east
Queensland’s community radio stations.
Following the break up of Silent Partner in
1994, Chris armed himself with an acoustic guitar and travelled around
various destinations as a solo artist, playing anywhere from local
community festivals to Fijian prisons.
He returned to the world of rock in 1996 after
officially joining the indie pop band ‘Thrive’. His musical journey
thus far paid off in the band’s first competition, receiving ‘best
vocalist’ and ‘best band’ awards.
Throughout the following years, the young front man
went from strength to strength, not only earning additional credit as a
vocalist, but also a songwriter. The tune ‘Those who Believe’
entered the finals of the 1997 TAMOSCAR Song writing competition and the
song ‘Bend’ received 3rd place in the 1998 FM96.5/Ansvar Creative
Challenge.
In early 1999, Chris’ original material was
heard by Mushroom records artist/producer, Stuart Stuart. Stuart and his
production company ‘Chartsong’ expressed a desire to work with the
singer/songwriter as a solo artist. Touching on truly original themes,
‘Leave’ showcases the fine talents of this singer, while
demonstrating the radio friendly characteristics of his song writing
abilities. Leave features the tracks ‘Leave’, ‘Thank you’, ‘Nothing’
and ‘Bend’.
Chris continues to perform as a solo artist,
and with his band ‘Interim’ (previously Thrive).
